Intro

Ah, hello. I was hoping you'd call.

I'm Roi from the Golden Chip.

What for?
You run the chip?

What for? / Tell me more / What did you want?

I was looking for help with a little project. You may know that our relay code isn't compatible with Novos yet.

It's actually a pretty serious problem. Novos sites are a lot more… ephemeral than their old counterparts, based on shared hardware. So infiltrating one site doesn't do much; the administrators will just kick us off during the next sweep.

But the infrastructure systems are well-protected. And we really need to get moving on them before the corporations shut down the old systems for good. The clock is ticking, as they say.

We think the vulnerability lies in when those ephemeral sites go offline; it might expose some of the infrastructure to us. And that's what I'd like your help studying. Use the relay codes, knock some sites offline, and I'll collect the results.

What do you say?

Sound good
No thanks (End of conversation?)

Sounds good

Excellent! I'll add you to the list.

Just go ahead and use the relay code while you're taking sits offline. I'll be able to track the results.

We're always watching… ha! Just kidding. We have daemons for that.
(End of conversation)

No thanks

Suit yourself. It's strictly optional, of course, but give me a call if you change your mind.
(End of conversation)

You run the chip?

No, no, no. I'm not sure anyone really "runs" the Chip. It's more that… those of us who help keep the place running get an allotment of tickets. It keeps the economy going, if nothing else.

What did you want?

Nevermind / Nope

Harsh.

Well, it's like I explained. Most Novos sites are temporary things on shared servers, so hooking into them doesn't do us much good. We need to get at some of the underlying infrastructure… but the company that set up the security for your area, Midgard, actually did a fairly good job.

We think we have a lead on how to get in, but we need a lot of data… a lot of data… like, a "don't expect us to be done tomorrow" lot of data. And, by all signs, the data we need only comes in short bursts as a ephemeral site goes offline, the flailings as the infrastructure tries to find it.

So, grab some relay code, break some stuff, and see what you can find. I'll be coordinating from here with my exceptionally realistic martini.

What are my standings?

Let me call that up… here you go!

Intro (After the completion of the project)

With a ahem little data, we've figured out how to get into the relays and, from there, tap into the backbone systems under Metroplex. It's a wealth of data down there, but we'll leave the question of how to bring that in to you.

Here's how everything ended up.

And, at the top of the leaderboard?
You did fantastic! Let me get you a taste of the special recipe… and a gift with some meatspace drinks in the OmniMall if you're into that sort of thing.
Or, with at least 100 but less than 200 data points?
You did great! Let me get you a round… and another in meatspace, if that's your thing. It'll be waiting for you at the OmniMall.

You found: eternal martini (Top spots only? Didn't receive with 108)

You found: X virtual martini (X seems to be total data points divided by 100, rounded down?)

Intro (After receiving your rewards from the first project)

Hello again! Thanks for your help getting the NovOS project off the ground.

What now?
How's the new project? (After asking "What now?")
How'd I do?
Not right now (End of conversation)

What now?

We're trying to get everything moved over to NovOS and the biggest is the system responsible for transporting all our data. That's proven tricky with NovOS, because the corporate controls are much tighter, but our old system won't last for much longer.

On the bright side, we found a way through. Even though NovOS would like to pretend everything happens within its software, that isn't actually true. There's a system of relays that is responsible for carrying everything around, it's just… hard to get to.

When a NovOS site crashes, our relay code can follow its signal back up the chain… through the subrelays and all the way to the actual backbone. It's tricky and I can't guarantee success, but having taps on those relays helps us service places like, say, Metroplex. It's a huge help and we, after all, always pay our debts.

How's the new project? (After asking "What now?")

Let me call that up… here you go:
