Encounter Conditions

Etheric

Initial Text

Near what you surmise is the real wall of the cavern, you find a calm stretch of forest. That is, if you can still call it a forest if it's made of massive glowing mushrooms instead of trees.

It's strange, certainly, but also rather peaceful. As you pass through the forest, the mushrooms muffle everything, leaving only the quiet sound of your own footsteps.

Harvest some

You search around, gathering the mushrooms you're fairly sure aren't dangerous. It's not a great haul, but the mushrooms here are so strange, it's hard to guess what might be useful.

You found: 1-3 of: edible mushroom, large mushroom, red toadstool
You found: 0-1 of: fragile puffball, tiny blue toadstool, tiny brown toadstool, tiny green toadstool, (any others?)

Or, if you helped the Mushroom Servant harvest:

You take a look for some of the mushrooms you saw while helping out. You're not exactly sure what all the mushrooms do, but at least you can identify them.

You found 2-3 of: edible mushroom, large mushroom, red toadstool
You found 1 of: fragile puffball, tiny blue toadstool, tiny brown toadstool, tiny green toadstool, tiny red toadstool, (any others?)

Or sometimes, with a mushroom spade equipped:

You find a fertile-looking place to start digging with your spade. Yup, jackpot!

You found: 2-3 of: edible mushroom, large mushroom, red toadstool
You found 1-3 of: fragile puffball, rocky spores, tiny blue toadstool, tiny brown toadstool, tiny green toadstool, tiny red toadstool, twin mushrooms

Lay down to rest

You lay down to rest among the giant mushrooms and wake up some time later. For a moment you panic, remembering old legends of travelers waylaid by faeries.

But when you double-check your comm, it's only been about twenty minutes. For only having been that long, you feel quite refreshed.

You regain 30-40 HP!

Investigate the pool

(Without Draught of Breath active)

You jump into the pool, turning this way and that, before you finally emerge right back in the forest. Damn.

(With Draught of Breath active)

Sea-Chasm.jpg

You jump into the pool. It's cool, but not cold, and you easily make your way deeper.

You hate to say it, but that strange drink definitely did its job. After following the tunnel for what seems like miles, tugged along by a strange intuition, you emerge into salty water.

(Enter Lake Metroplex (North))

Head for the cave

With less than 20 Reflexes with or without Fae Blessing

You climb up the nearest mushroom and start making your way from cap to cap. You're just not agile enough to manage it, overstepping one jump and sliding off back to the ground.

Thankfully, you didn't have too far to fall.

You take 10-18 damage.
You've earned 4 XP in Reflexes

With enough Reflexes but without Fae Blessing

You climb your way up one mushroom, then move from one to another. This high up, they sway strangely, and you can't quite get the rhythm of it.

Eventually, you swerve when you should have forged ahead, and plummet back to the forest floor. Thankfully, the mushrooms absorb the worst of your fall.

Even with that saving grace, your leg is still sticking out at an unpleasant angle.

You take 22 damage.

You've gained 10 energy of Broken Bone.

With 20 or more Reflexes and Fae Blessing

A child, perhaps nine or ten, crouches in the cave glowering at you. As you approach, a sparkling green light drops just in front of her head and it snaps to attention.

She glances down off the edge significantly. "It appears you've earned an audience. Why is it you've come?"

Leads to King of the Fae

On success if you have disposed of the Fae King

You make your way up to the now-empty cave. There's not much to do here, except gloat over your victory and laugh maniacally.

You experimentally try the latter and find the acoustics are excellent.
