You catch a glimpse of the scientist that you saw heading through the field to visit S43 or whatever they call him. She's moving quickly, tilting her head slightly as she walks, probably to get slightly different views from her HUD.

A few other scientists are following nearby, but mostly seem content to stay out of her way.

As you approach, she cocks her head to the side, then glances at your badge. "Heh. I appreciate your initiative, but go ahead and ask your mentor first. I've got a lot to do here."

She raises an eyebrow at you, exposing it from behind her shades. "As curious as I am, I can't talk to you right now. Busy busy busy."

She laughs to herself at a joke she apparently didn't share with you.

Threaten her

She glances at your ID and shakes her head. "Seriously? I don't even recognize you. Learn your place in the pecking order before you start picking fights."

She turns to leave.

She exhales slowly. "So, what, corporate espionage? Seems kind of strange to come all the way out here."

"Whatever, I'm a pragmatist. Tell me what you need. I don't get hurt, you don't get hurt, it seems like a pretty good arrangement."

Ask how she gets through the field

She pauses, entering a long, uncomfortable silence. You can't tell easily through her shades, but you get the impression she's blinking.

"You can't? I mean… it looks kind of sci fi, I'll grant you that, but did you try walking through it? The field's totally harmless, just walk right through."

It's possible she's trying to trick you into hurting yourself more, but your gut says she's just as confused as you are, if not more so.

Ask how to disable the field

She stops for a long while and purses her lips. "It's too dangerous at this point. We don't know if he'll have a relapse once the field's been removed. He could be fine, he might die."

"But, well, if it's him or me… you can turn it off from the main computer here. It's easier with my voice login, but a hacker could probably do it either way."

She quickly vanishes back into the crowd, leaving you to think about the problem.

Bring up Project Huginn

"You… you know about Huginn? Really?"

She looks over you appraisingly. "Well, I obviously didn't give you enough credit. Huginn's why I can't help people most of the time, actually. It's Johnson's baby, some sort of complex double-blind."

She shrugs. "Technically, I don't know any details. You'd have to track him down and ask him yourself."

"I know he's been running it for years, though. Its sister project was completed before I even got here, but Huginn's still going strong."

You lunge at her. Whatever she was expecting, it definitely wasn't that.

She shakes her head. "This is quite some length to go to for some industrial espionage. But it is pretty interesting."

"We found that certain energy fields can disrupt the effects we associate with Slags Intoxification. A drone found him wandering in the Slags, apparently he was in pretty bad shape, so we've used it to stabilize him."

If the Artist is still alive:
"We're still trying to understand the process. It saved his life, but he's still in a coma. He's… well to put it in layman's terms, he's not acting like a normal coma patient at all. His brain is incredibly active, even in the motor areas, but he's just not moving."

She shrugs. "Anyway, it's just as well. Even if he could move, we'd still need to keep him in that room for observation. And the patients are usually violent so it's a nice change of pace."

If the Artist is dead or gone:
"Anyway, he's gone now, so there's not much more we can study. A damned shame, because there was still so much to learn." The corners of her mouth turn down slightly.

You hold out your comm set to record. She leans over and introduces herself for the recording.
Her tone's practiced, but has a faint hint of fear behind it. It's hard to say whether that's fear of you or what might happen if she's found out.

Sit back and watch

You hang back, watching her as she moves among the larger crowd of scientists. Several of them seem eager for her input, which she doles out in small sections dripping in disdain.

The other scientists seem surprisingly accepting of their fate, but it makes you wonder why people get normal jobs. Although, most people would never get up after the stuff you've been through, so that might explain it.
