first item (1x), second item (1x)

The way that salvaging works:

- A item has a list of "salvage result".
- A "salvage result" is a set of one or more items (more often than not: a "salvage result" is exactly one item— but there are exceptions, see below)
- Without Expert Salvager, exactly one of these "salvage results" is chosen and given to you.
- With Expert Salvager, there is a 50% chance of a second "salvage result" dropping as well (if there is a second one to choose from)

A "salvage result" can be:

- [A] A single item
- [B] Several of a single type of item
- [C] Several different items

So in practice, this gives the following possibilities/examples:

- Items with 1 "salvage result" with one single item.
- These give guaranteed results, and expert salvager makes no difference.
- Eg.
**unlocked Midgard Player**= { [1 Midgard Player] }

- Items with several "salvage results" with one single item each.
- If there are two possible results, without expert salvager that means a 50% chance of Item A, and 50% of item B. With Expert Salvager, that means 25% of just Item A, 25% of just Item B, and 50% of both.
- Eg.
**suspicious rifle**= { [1 polysteel], [1 assault rifle fittings] }

- Items with 2 "salvage result", where each salvage result happens to be the exact same item.
- Same as the above example except Item A and B are the same item.
- Eg.
**artificial hound crystal**= { [1 hound dust], [1 hound dust] }

- Many books have a "salvage result" of [2 Paper Mache], and another one of [3 Paper Mache]. This means that without Expert Salvager, you can get 2 or 3 Paper Mache. With Expert Salvager, you can get 2 or 3 or 5 paper mache.
- Eg.
**The Eye**= { [2 Paper Mache], [3 Paper Mache] }

- Eg.

- The
**heavy pistol**has possible results of { [1 Polysteel], [1 Polysteel], [1 pistol fittings] } — so the polysteel is twice as common. Getting 2 polysteel is possible.

- The
**frigid scarf**has just one "salvage result" which consists of { [1 Ordinary Scarf+3 handfuls of snowflakes] }

- The
**Omnitech Learntop**is a neat one which consists of six different possible results, some of which consist of multiple copies/repeats. You could express it as { [1 signal analysis circuit], [1 microcapacitor], [2 microcapacitor], [1 frayed cable], [2 circuit fragments], [3 circuit fragments] }

I started the Salvage Spading page a while back to track stuff — thanks for reminding me about this!

]]>[1 ecto sample]

or

[2 ecto sample],

or with expert salvager, you have a 50% chance of getting multiple salvages, including the possibility of 3 ecto samples. (Would need more data on how often that happens but that is definitely possible.)
