Encounter Conditions
Talked to sleeping bum in southside about trees on the docks
Initial Text
It's just like that bum said… there's a whole pier lined with Christmas trees, but they're heavily guarded. Even ignoring the obvious mystery of why someone would put this many guards on a shipment of fake trees, the composition of the guards is a little interesting.
Right alongside the normal dock security, there are Midgard security officers. From what you understand, only the better parts of town can usually afford that sort of protection… but there they are, just standing there in the snow.
Summary of Choices
- Approach peacefully - Fight 2 dock security, 1 midgard security
- Charge in - Fight 2 dock security, 1 midgard security
- Draw one out - (if you pass a check?) fight 1 guard
- Wait and see - scope out the guards
- Steal a tree - Fight 2 dock security, 1 midgard security
- Leave them
Choice Text and Results
Approach peacefully
You walk up to the guards peacefully, displaying your hands at your sides. Despite your obvious signs, the nearest set of guards rush you.
They didn't even bother shaking you down for credits first… strange.
(Fight 2 dock security, 1 midgard security)
At the end of the combat:
You're able to slip away before the rest of the guards catch on to your presence.
Draw one out
You wait for one of the guards to wander off for a break. You jump him from the shadows just as he starts his cup of coffee, transforming his scream into a spray of brown fluid and a coughing fit.
(Fight 1 dock security)
Steal a tree
You prowl quietly down towards the trees at the end of the pier. The place is thick with guards, though.
You're almost there when you hear the crunch of a boot in snow behind you. You turn just in time to see a patrol doing their best to close in on you from behind.
(Fight 2 dock security, 1 midgard security)

Look and See
First paragraph:
(If you've not killed any? many? guards)
You hang back to watch their activities. The entire pier is swarming with guards, mostly in groups of three. It's hard to imagine anyone would be willing to pay this many guards just to watch some Christmas trees… but there they are.
(If you've killed 15ish?)
You hang back to watch their activities. A surprising number of guards stand on the pier, but closer inspection reveals far more corpses than guards. You're no stranger to a bit of blood, but a slaughter like this… over fake trees?
Second paragraph:
(With insufficient stealth power)
Unfortunately, you can't sneak close enough to hear their conversations.
You've earned 3 XP in Perception
(Otherwise with 6 stealth power?])
You're able to sneak in close enough to hear some of their conversation. The guards are standing around, chatting lightly. Most of the talk is focused on the differences between their operations and what people will be spending their bonuses on.
Then-
If you have killed Officer Stone,
The rest is speculation on why they've all been sent to guard a bunch of trees. The normal dock guards imply it's an order from "Stone's replacement" and the Midgard folks are blaming it on upper management.
If not-
The rest is speculation on why they've all been sent to guard a bunch of trees. The normal dock guards blame{sic} it's an order from someone called "Stone" and the Midgard folks are blaming it on upper management.
You've earned 3 XP in Perception
You've earned 2 XP in Reflexes
