Location

This location can be accessed by lowering into the fire in A Faceless Hero and Branching Caverns encounters. This is part of The Black Sketchbook quest.

Over The Lake of Fire

1. See if he gathers fire - Lose all HP, gain 5 energy of Severely Charred, or gain blazing skull (if you've taken a skull from the Wall of Skulls choice encounter)
2. Search for him swimming - Lose all HP, gain 20 energy of Severely Charred
3. Look more closely - Gain 3 XP in Perception
4. Try to find fishing sketches - Gain 3 XP in Will

Mushroom Forest - Only if you haven't broken through the wall of skulls*

1. See if he sleeps - Gain 4 XP in Will and 10 energy of Toxic Spores
2. Search for him eating mushrooms — tells you if mushrooms will make you big or small
3. Check if he gathers some - hero gains mushrooms; subsequently, 5 XP in Will

Wall of Skulls

1. See if he breaks through - Gain 4 XP in Strength
2. Look for him climbing it - Gain 4 XP in Perception
3. Search for him taking a skull - Gain a human skull

Chained Lake

1. See if he climbs back to the surface - Leads to The Black Book
2. Search for him ducking into the tunnels - Leads to Tunnels of The Black Book
3. Look for sketches of him swinging across - Gain 3 XP in Will

Ghoulish Trio - Only if you broke through the wall of skulls*

1. See if he fights them - Lose all HP, gain 10 energy of Broken Bone, or gain grisly crown of teeth, 5 XP (if you have a battered pistol from the Gravestone choice encounter)
2. Look for him running - Gain 3 XP in Reflexes
3. Search for sketches following them - Gain 2 XP in Perception and 2 XP in Will
4. Find out if he feeds them - Lose all HP, gain 10 energy of Broken Bone, or learn ghoul language (if you have a collection of limbs from the Innocent Pile of Crates choice encounter)

* The Ghoulish Trio and Mushroom Forest are on opposite sides of the wall of skulls. Getting across the wall locks one encounter and unlocks the other one, and going across the wall again reverses the process.
