Will get details on the main page shortly, but as far as I can tell, the basic operation works as follows:

• Feed it foods to learn techniques
• Salt with powders to change which technique you learn

In order to get the "Hopefully that'll all break down into Ecofuel", you need to feed it .2 gang stash worth of food at once (so 10 ancient candy bars, or 5 protein bars, or 2 acidic sushi). It took getting the "Hopeful' message 8-14 times to learn a technique. (data points: 8, 12, 14)

• Agar Powder = Ecofuel Fire
• Processed Sugar = Ecofuel Fire
• Sulphur = Acidic Ecofuel
• Red flakes = Ecofuel Fire
• Hound Dust, Dehydrated Eyedrops = Crystallized Ecofuel
• Gold powder = Glittering Ecofuel
• Rinsed squid eyes = Flowing Ecofuel
• Nova = Acidic Ecofuel

That covers all the categories listed on powder pouring except ashes of memory and achromatic powder which I don't have.

There is a degree of overlap with the dusts from powder pouring but it is not exact. Things like stimulants, dehydrated eyedrops, and red flakes count as part of other groups for techniques.

The techs I have encountered so far are Ecofuel Fire, Acidic Ecofuel, Crystallized Ecofuel, Flowing Ecofuel, and Smoking Ecofuel. Standard and Acidic Ecofuel seem to be the more common techniques with Salt materials. Things that result in either crystal or oily dust when powder pouring yield the Crystallized and Flowing varieties of Ecofuel. So far I have only received Smoking Ecofuel by salting with paper dust or shaman's dust. There is also a possibility that some Salt options could potentially have technique results that differ from what is expected.

Added more to the list above — tried most of the basic categories from the powder pouring. I have not seen Smoking Ecofuel — do you recall what gave that? (EDIT: Valmo says Paper dust and shaman's dust)

The flamethrower spans a whopping 39 technique ids, and we have about 18 currently. Kinak was working on several projects simultaneously or we have a lot of hidden stuff to find.

First thing I did - feed it 140 ancient candy bars, get 1 ecofuel fire (confirmation that you don't need to feed it in bits).
280 ancient candy bars: get 2 ecofuel fire.

The hungry ooze and ecofuel flamethrower give different messages based on the gang stash value of fed items. Are these messages significant themselves or just a hint that the gang stash value matters?

One of them has a specific break point you need to know about, indicated by the message. The other one is just a hint.

Not sure if anyone tested this yet, but none of the fire techniques appear to be affected by Engineer Explosives (makes sense).

Things I tried and failed to make interact with this:

- Living Sludge (Tested with all fuels except Flowing)

- Tainted Shoreline (etheric and sober)

- Fish People

- Feeding the flamethrower with many and varied food sources ranging from delicious to disgusting

Nothing special for feeding 21 units of food at once.

Nothing for 37 either? (in a row? Try not to feed any more flamethrowers on your way to the parking lot!)

Today I got the avatar. After many days of fueling and fighting and even fighting in pvp.
Didn't get it at first, then (without any more adventuring)
- dropped in 1 each of many different types of food to compost
- then salted with a few more types of salt, dropping in 33 heavy puffballs each time
- last salt was agar powder, with first composting 1 agar powder
- then I composted 33 heavy puffballs again, got 2 ecofuel fire, and the avatar
- now I have: 14 acidic ecofuel, 5 ecofuel fire, 60 crystallized ecofuel, 35 flowing ecofuel, 3 glittering ecofuel, 3 smoking ecofuel.

Fed the flamethrower one tiny candy cane (.02 Goods) at a time until I got a technique; then fed 78 more and got another technique; fed 85 more to get another technique; fed 84 more to get another technique. It does seem to be random.

EDIT Also, within the same combat, I got

You melt the twisted figure with a torrent of clear acid for 11 stealth damage.

and then next round

You wash away the twisted figure with clear acid for 8 stealth damage.

So it does look like that's a counter that's being decremented per use.
