— at jagged hole (entrance to sewer hideout)
Introduce Yourself

He nods. "Ah, you're the one Carlos sent down, aren't you? He probably
told you we'd have some sort of test… yeah, test…"
The other guard shakes his head. "Go up top and put the fear of god in
some of the dockhands. They all owe us money, so just make sure they pay
or rough 'em up a bit."
"It's all low cred loans, but can't just have people saying you can get
away without paying, right?"
(Introduce yourself probably changes to Report in at this point)
QUEST (in "The Docks", second paragraph):
The Fangs have given you a small assignment to earn their trust. Apparently they want you to collect money from some of the dockhands that owe them. Admittedly, it sounded like they're not so much concerned with the money as the intimidation.
WATERFRONT:
dockhands at break:

- Collect the Fangs' debts
[img: dockhand]
The dockhands seem appropriately cowed, handing over the money they owe,
plus interest. You don't actually know their tabs, but they seem scared
enough they're probably paying out.
You gained *15-20 credits*!

one collect:
quest changes second paragraph to:
The Fangs have given you a small assignment to earn their trust. You've
started collecting from the dockhands, so they should know fear soon enough.
three collects:
The Fangs have given you a small assignment to earn their trust. It
seems like all the dockhands owe them money, but you've put the fear in
several.
five collects:
The Fangs have given you a small assignment to earn their trust. You've
been doing a good job intimidating the dockhands that owe them money,
hopefully someone's noticed.
at this point, returning to the hideout and choosing "report in" (3 maps
were enough to get the enounter immediately) gives:
He shakes his head. "I didn't hear anything. Get up there, teach them
some lessons, impress somebody. They'll call down and we'll let you in
like Carlos wanted."
"It shouldn't be too hard. Those dockhands are pretty jumpy. Probably
the Eclipse."
That was probably unnecessary; got the following on the waterfront:
One of the innumerable Fangs hanging out on the Docks approaches you.
"Hey, saw you shaking down those deadbeats earlier. Good form, for a
newbie."
"Anyway, head back to the hideout and have a drink or something. I'll
call back and tell them you rocked it."

Contacting squatter king at this point (with crate of medicine) gives:
You actually brought them? Well, I'll be damned. A deal's a deal.
Heard you already figured out where your "friends" the Fangs are… so
here's another tidbit: they can't find their own hideout without a map.
I can't read them, but it might help you. Here you go.
You found: 3 *crude ganger maps*
used one map, followed graphitti, 1 encounter, then met jagged hole
Report in:
He laughs. "Yeah, I heard you did a good job with those stupid bastards."
"Who works for a living, seriously?" He waves you past.
The tunnels merge into what looks like a natural cave. As you make your
way forward, you can pick out a few places where the Fangs have
installed electric lights. The scent of the sewers is also, thankfully,
pushed slowly back by the less offensive scent of Lake Metroplex.
note: I was still able to collect creds from dockhands even after being noticed, so maybe this can increase our income a bit?
SEWER HIDOUT:
COURIERS
- Jump them
- Follow them
You follow the two of them, making smalltalk. It's not terribly
interesting, but it gets you closer to the Fangs' settlement without
anyone asking uncomfortable questions.
- Stop to chat
[img: fang]
The two of them apparently spend a lot of time selling Eclipse, so they
have some decent advice on picking out good marks. They prefer to find
people that are really down and out, willing to do anything to escape
the world around them.
Apparently there's a difference of opinion among different gangs. One up
near Metroplex U targets those with more "artistic sensibilities."
One of the gang member grumbles how "they're living the high life,
making money hand over fist on the rich kids. Meanwhile, we make a
living shaking down bums. It's just not fair."

FANG GUARD:
One of the Fangs' guards approaches you as you wander through their
cave. "Hey, hold it, who the hell are you?"
- Jump him
- Introduce yourself
// I didn't get to see this encounter again after it was fixed //
- Turn and run (used to be result for introduce yourself, but Kinak says he fixed it)
You flee, pleasantly surprised by the lack of gunshots. Unfortunately, a
moment later the silence is broken by his shouts of "Intruder! Intruder!
Get your guns you jerkoffs!"
—- Kills Carlos
eavesdropping again
[img crates]
As you hide behind the crates, you strain to hear their quiet
conversation. They're mostly just talking about drugs, which you suppose
qualifies as "shop talk" down here.
One of them is rambling off an elaborate conspiracy theory about how
Midgard Industries owns Metroplex and has banned neural recordings just
because they don't want money going to their competitor Zaibatsu.
Eventually one of the others cuts him off with a "we know, man. That's
old news… like back-when-Benny-Smith-played-baseball old."
With that topic cut off, they discuss how the trip from Eclipse is "more
real than the best recordings." After a while, though, the discussion
just degenerates into them wishing the market wasn't so saturated…
mostly so they could sell tablets for top cred rather than almost giving
them away.

OR
You hide on the far side of the crates, listening in on their
conversation. They're discussing Midgard Security Forces, the contractor
that handles security for most of Metroplex.
One of the gangers is quite insistent that they'll ignore Eclipse deals
right under their noses. Another thinks that's ridiculous, but insists
they're kidnapping bums from Southside.
The third, a bit older, tells both of them to shove it. Apparently he
won't hear any "blaspheming" against Midgard because they provided
treatment to his family after a massive industrial accident.

THEN
[img: fang]
You walk confidently among the Fangs. Nobody seems interesting in
bothering you, so you easily make your way deeper into their camp.
You're walking among the Fangs' buildings now, not far from a filthy
body of water that must connect with Lake Metroplex. It's pretty
abandoned. It seems like most of the guards are dead.
(this might be bugged result, since Kinak had to revert some badness I
have done to them)
AND AGAIN
[img: fang]
You walk confidently among the Fangs. Nobody seems interesting in
bothering you, so you easily make your way deeper into their camp.
You're in the thick of the Fangs' settlement, right along the water's
edge. It's pretty abandoned. It seems like most of the guards are dead.
AND AGAIN (I am basically just running from fights all the time)
You walk confidently among the Fangs. Nobody seems interesting in
bothering you, so you easily make your way deeper into their camp.
You're near the center of the Fangs' settlement, nestled against a foul
body of water. The guards around here are mostly buzzing with useless
activity, chasing after shadows.

This deep in the cave, Fang guards are everywhere. You seem to be a
topic of some conversation, mostly your credentials being repeated over
and over.
It's better than having to explain yourself every time, but you have to
admit you're not used to being around this many people. Southside is
never quite this dense.
It's actually giving you a fuzzy headache, just at the edge of your
perception.
You've gained 5 energy of Annoying Headache.

IMPOSING MAN
You've made your way clear to the edge of the lake where a heavyset man
with a cybernetic eye is watching over a large pile of crates. He seems
intent on ignoring you, instead tapping away at his PDA.
It looks rather nice, certainly better than anyone in Southside could
afford, even the Fangs there. Between that and the disdainful way he
ignores you, you'd say it's fairly certain he's in a position of authority.
-confront him
?
-stop to chat
He looks you over. "So you're the new recruit Carlos sent? Welcome aboard."
Then he glares at you until you leave. Well, that could have gone worse.
-try some sabotage
[img: crates]
You carefully make your way to the far side of the crates and light a
fire. Eventually the gang leader notices, shouting "Wait, what the
hell?" but by then it's too late.
Between the Eclipse-laden fumes and panicking guards, you're able to
snag his PDA and make it back to the sewers without suffering any
further questions.
You found: encrypted PDA
The coin in your hand grows hot. It grows too intense after a moment and
you're forced to loosen your grip.
can contact Lo about the PDA at this point and end the quest and
Mikhail's creds; I was also expulsed to the sewer and Carlos is
unreachable and Dr. T. offers job
