lost to one of these in the sewer hideout:

As the world fades to black, the serpent bends down to feast on your flesh and bones, cracking away at them hungrily.

Although the wounds are already sealing when you awaken, it makes the experience no less unpleasant.

You've gained 5 energy of Broken Bone.

Do all of them do this now?

First Log

You shoot the lake serpent for 14 damage.

And you end it with a single explosive round for 21 damage.

Got the "clumsily" attack in the first round of combat with no effects on besides etheric.

Perception: 4 (7) Reflexes: 6 (9) Strength: 4 (7) Will: 4 (7)

Second Log
Another clumsily attack on the first round of combat.

You dive for cover.
The lake serpent pushes clumsily into you for 2 damage, but you duck behind cover, which absorbs all of the damage.

You dive and tumble, your coat billowing.

And you end it with a single explosive round for 15 damage.

You dive and tumble, your coat billowing.
The lake serpent pushes clumsily into you for 1 damage, but you catch the worst of the attack in your billowing coat, avoiding all of the damage.

I'll keep a log and see if there's a pattern to this "clumsily" attack.

I am getting 4 XP from this opponent. I don't seem to have any bonus to XP gains active. I do have matsuo active, and a twisting silver sword equipped, if that matters. I also just recently fully analyzed the serpent protein.

In about 1200 combats logged, only 14 loose scales dropped; a 1% drop rate. Is there some additional trigger on those? Salvaging kit? Myers sampler?

Almost certainly sampler tool. I have 7 lake serpent samples, and 8 loose scales as well as two items crafted out of loose scales, for a total of 10 loose scales.
