Thanks for the podcast, Kinak!
On the topic of Discworld, the first few books are a bit rough, but I think by at least the point of Guards! Guards! Pratchett started hitting his stride and things were pretty reliable from there. In the last few books, as his illness was progressing, you can see a bit of a change in his writing voice, but they're still good. Just a bit of a different feel to them, that I have a hard time precisely describing.
Thanks Kinak! A local science/art event here ("Beakerhead") had Bill Nye and GZA from Wu-Tang as speakers too. Sounds like a big event to organize.
Re: tutoring from the survivors: Yes, I meant once you chose the survivor for Oldtown. Now that the BigDig hacking has been figured out, there are ~four general paths into the vault, which seem fairly deliberately matching up with the the four survivors styles (hacking-Dr. A, crafting-Lo, Etheric creatures-David, and directly charging in-Hel). But it occurred to me that choosing Dr. A as a contact doesn't really make it any easier to hack in to the vault than if you picked anyone else. I like the idea that (while anyone can use any ingress method into the vault) the one most suited to that survivor's style would be more encouraged by that survivor.
There's a number of other PDAs that have rather high hardening still — I'm assuming some of these numbers might be revised in the final Oldos cleanup pass. (from the hardening page:) — EDIT: NOW UPDATED:Oldos | PDA | Novos |
---|---|---|
+20 | Fang PDA | +4 |
+15 | buffered TZR | +3 |
+10 | buffered learntop, buffered PDA | +2 |
+5 | hardened PDA, safety learntop | +1 |
Thanks for confirming about the parasol in the sewers — one more thing I can cross off the Things to Investigate list. :)
Thanks for the podcast, Kinak!
You're welcome :)

That's good to hear (except for the change towards the end, which is kind of depressing). The Darkover series, one of my personal favorites, also has a very rough start, so I was willing to give him a few books.

Sweet! Yeah, it's been about 18 months of work in 6 months. But Lyz seems to have things under control… plus editing for Paizo… and playing early music… and nailing down her job for after the rally. "Lyz is intense" is the morale of the story.

Yeah, no, that makes a lot of sense. Or at least unlock a little sidequest to get more from them or something. I don't have anything immediately to jump in with, but I think that'll be cool.

Oh, yeah, that was probably the intent. But I'm going to just do them now, because I had utterly forgotten about it.

No wonder the dorms are taking so long if the Midgard construction crew workers are defecting to Omnitech's question construction task force.
EDIT: And, yep, hardening way more matters now, the fang PDA is not my go-to powerhouse it once once. Ugh, I am anticipating my beloved daily tester going away too. Crytodynamic may have suggested this — there are currently almost no programs that give hacking bonus (more or less only hardening), anything that gave incognito or code finesse would be interesting.
(Ugh, I was saying this two years ago but "I keep discovering that I don't understand code finesse" keeps reoccurring up til today.)
