If you have a backbone, whenever another player finds a random University Net site, you get +1 leaderboard point.

Really? I think it's currently closer to "if you have a backbone, and anybody (including you) gets pointed to that area's subrelay by crashing a site (with relay effect active), you get +1 leaderboard point".
- finding a site is not sufficient, you have to crash it
- crashing it is not sufficient, you have to crash enough sites to get a "$area relay" effect
- it can't be just any relay effect, it has to be for an area whose backbone you control
- but you get the point even if it's you

Hm, weird, I'm not getting that. Just now: xerf has control of all areas. With juryrigged and Relay Search, I randomly found an encounter to Bernard's Midnight Life. I viewed the public files and then logged out. Now xerf has one more point. Does that sound right?

Relay Search may be required but I don't think it's anything beyond that. EDIT: relay search not required either.

That does not sound right to me, but I only ever paid attention to points awarded to me by something done by me. Maybe that's an important difference?

3 code, 8 bang cola. So that seems to be straight 1 backend for every 300 (?) and 1 can for every 100.

So it looks to me like I got 3 code, some cola and a dish core. I didn't count the cola (I am not even sure it was the bang!), because I was surprised by the core. Because I was second place (with 2397 score).
Maybe the core is for passing 1000 score?
