I've mentioned before that I'll be heading to GenCon Indy in mid August. I'll be trying new games, taking in some seminars, and hopefully talking about Metroplexity until my face is numb. Which shouldn't sound like the perfect vacation, but pretty much is.

So, if anyone is heading out or happens to live near Indy, I'd love to meet up and drink/eat tasty things. You'd even get to meet Lyz, my delightfully geeky wife. Puyo, unfortunately, has been rather ill and won't be able to make it.

For everyone else, I've got some… plans for when I'm gone. If all goes well, you'll probably wish I went to GenCon every week :)

Why are all the awesome cons so far away? Despite my envy, have a very good time and I hope Puyo gets well soon!

Also, don't say "…plans", it's scary when you do that. :)

Because you apparently don't live in the Midwest :) I've lived in three different cities and GenCon's itself moved, but I've still never lived more than six hours from it.

And I literally walked to Origins from my house, which is pretty awesome.

Also, don't say "…plans", it's scary when you do that. :)

Oh man, only a 2,258 mile drive! I could do it 32 hours! If I started walking now I would get there a couple weeks too late.

Yeah google maps won't even allow me to count the distance…its that far, on a whole another continent in fact

I usually find google maps assumes I have a kayak handy for intercontinental travel. Better yet, a kayak capable of transporting a car for easy travels on the other end of my paddle-marathon…

Ahhh, good ol' google maps. Apparently, I can hoof it to GenCon is two and a half days. Not a bad deal.

I might beat our actually route there, because we're overshooting to Peoria to visit Puyo and pick up some crazy renaissance instruments (not for GenCon, my wife's just generally hardcore).

I was recently witness to a cello/viola de gamba/hurdy gurdy jam session (with me fooling around inexpertly on the pennywhistle). One thing about crazy renaissance instruments: they go out of tune way too easily. *wince*

Winsauce! They do get out of tune so easily. The viol players in my wife's consort in Peoria were always tuning.

She plays the krummhorn, shawms, dulcian, recorders, and a bunch of modern instruments. She also just picked up the bagpipe, which is hilarious.

I, on the other hand, can't carry a tune in a bucket. We're both pretty competitive, so it works out well.

Awesome. I have a (Swedish) bagpipes, but every time I attempt to play it, it shows me who's boss. And I'm not man enough to start fooling around with reeds, beeswax, and twisty ties in order to tune it. I'd rather it didn't end up on the 'instruments I gave up on' list (just piano and violin so far).
