I took a shot at this too, scavenging numerous times in The Quad and then trying my luck with the scrap pit.

The message, at least for the Quad, is:

You lower yourself into the scrap pit, searching for buried treasures.

After 14 scavenges:
You found: signal analysis circuit
You found: unlined pants
You found: unlined vest
You found: microcapacitor

After a bunch more scavenges:
You found: 2 handfuls of circuit fragments
You found: 2 handfuls of polysteel
You found: unlined pants
You found: frayed cable

You found: unlined pants

Note that on my first raid I got 4 items, while after more scavenging I got 5-6. (And my last two uses, after I had already raided a few times, were the ones that gave 5.) This suggests that you get more items if there has been more scavenging. Raz seemed to be getting about 8 items/raid in his data on the main page, so I'm guessing he and the other Hounds did more scavenging first.

I wonder if there's an upper limit to this. Maybe if we scavenge enough we'll get a message like "Your gang's scrap pit is full to the brim." Maybe at that point you'll have a chance of finding epic scavenge-only items or something. Otherwise, yeah, this does seem like a pretty underwhelming way to spend your turns, although there may be a PvP avatar in there somewhere.

Maybe Kinak will shed some light on whether there's something cool in here that we have yet to find on the next podcast.

Well I spend some time scavenging at the docks today (someone in jumbucks may have already been there, as the uni one was empty) and got the following number of items: 7,6,6,5,4,4,3,2,2 then the pit was empty. So if you were getting more items as you spent more turns, maybe there's some kind of CRAZY parabola going on. Or perhaps a regular parabola?

EDIT: Just tried the slags too. 7,6,6,5,5,4,3,3,2,1 empty. Data!

I spent a big pile of turns last night scavenging. Interestingly, it was exclusively at The Quad. So that supports the idea that the scrap pits are on a universal counter. I think I raided the pit at the U once and got 7 items.

If anyone's wondering what the recent update's about, there should now be a gas grenade in the U pit, some sort of gadget at the Docks one, and something to replace caffeine powder outside the slags (the powder was there in error). I'll test for details on the last two post-run.

The old version of the page, since it had some spading. Not too useful since the drops have changed, but hey, I gotta find something to occupy myself with since google docs spreadsheets are failing to load so I can't see how to get my vital red flakes.

Raid the Scrap Pit

As far as I can tell, it get stocked with items when someone in your gang scavenges.

It does nothing if no one has scavenged.

I scavenged twice at the docks, then used the scrap pit and got two items I might normally have found while scavenging (frayed cable, switchblade handle).

As a test, I scavenged once at the docks, then went to outside the slags and raided the scrap pit there. I got caffeine powder and partially digested fish.

Perhaps 'scavenge count' is universal, but each hideout can lower that 'scavenge count' in order to get items specific to that location?

This could be pretty badass for speedrunning if someone set it up right, assuming you can build up a pretty high scrapheap result with enouh scavenging.

Scavenged a bunch in dockside sewers (8-15 times? Don't rightly know)
raided scrap pit and got: eclipse, 2 dynamite, pistol fittings, switchblade handle
then: microcapacitor, circuit fragments, empty clip, frayed cable, polysteel
then: 2 eclipse, 2 microcapacitors

then: 2 frayed cable, 2 switchblade handles

Hm. Either there's no hidden mystery after all or it requires a more epic level of scavenging.

scavenged the sewers all day,
raided once, got: frayed cable, damp seaweed, circuit fragments, unlined vest, optical sensors, 2 sets of assault rifle fittings, microcapacitors.

In other words, the very definition of a boatload of crap.

I decided to burn some energy and to make some extensive testing on scrapheap - Raziel

Bringing you your usual Blind Legion spade-o-rama.

A log of coordinated scavenging-raiding cycles, in chronological order, all in the same day.

EDIT: Arkaim and Barton26 did all the scavenging, I did all the scrap raiding.

(slags scrap heap, scavenging in waterfront)
11 items on first raid
3 scavenge, then 11 items
3 scavenge 9 items & Dish segment
2 scavenge 10 items
3 scavenge 10 items

Findings:

-Scrap heaps do NOT gain size in real time, if the constant decline of the slags pit despite much scavenging says anything. They probably update on rollover based on the day's total scavenging.
-All scrap heaps sizes are NOT interconnected when raiding. When I moved to a fresh, untouched area's heap, I got 15 items (probably the max) again.
-Obviously, the university and waterfront scrap heaps are confirmed not to give dish segments.

This is wrong. It just takes *many* scavenging encounters. Like a dozen at least. And iirc it's more if your heap is closer to full.
Also don't forget that each heap size is actually 2 sizes (if you dive without scavenging, you will get 15, 15, 14, 14, 13, 13, 12, 12, 11, 11, … I think that's about where I stopped confirming). You increased your heap size by one "sub size" at least twice, by my count.

I have definitely gone from 14 to 15 repeatedly in one day. Where the number of repeats was 2 or 3.
(and I think the max is 16? Didn't try in a very long time, memory is faulty - but I should probably have two untouched heaps available too …).

ETA: it's possible that dish segment counts extra, and I only got 15 + dish segment? but your 11 -> 11 -> 9+dish segment -> 10 suggests that dish segment counts as part of the normal total

ETA2: and I have no idea how diving into the heap interacts with "saved charges" … you would need to do something like start from provably empty heap, put in various amounts of charges, see how many charges is enough for how many items, then start breaking the up the charges into two batches of various M:N with a dive between them …

Just got 16 items from U scrap heap pit. That's almost certainly definitely the max, accumulated over many dozens of days worth of scavengery.
