Frag grenade, NitroX and Red Metal Gaze (even without etheric and thus doing no damage) all count as sciencey for red lenses effect.

Micro Rocket and Gas grenade (A blatant oversight! What self-respecting mad scientist does not experiment with poison gas!) do not count.

Was testing jacob's ladder, fire serpent (without etheric) when I ran out of turns. :(
Will test those and maybe some Etheric techs tomorrow.

Hex definitely seems not to count for red lenses.

It's looking like you get Red Metal Gaze for getting 3(+?) energy of Red Lenses while etheric.

After some testing I got the following results.
sciencey:
acid splash, nitro, molotov cocktail, fuming acid, nitrox, frag grenade, live wire, petrol splash, silver bullets, Red Metal Gaze, Channel the Deep, withering gaze, rain of bullets, Jacob's Ladder

not sciencey:
fire serpent, bucket smash, psychotic break, hex, dynamite, improvisation, gas grenade, spore cloud, cinematic dodge, disruptive shot, focused burst, leaping dodge, light of the eye, vigilance, single shot, shotgun blast, explosive shot, judgment, quick shot, short burst, dirty trick, dirty pool, full auto, steady shot, stream of needles, call the swarm, indirect fire, microrocket, sdnano, switchblade

Sadly, Crystal Gate and Voice of Wrath seem not to be sciencey. So, since I'm convinced making chains of 5 is part of getting the Mad Scientist avatar, I'll have to wait on spading the new IotM. :/

It looks like you get some additional XP when you receive the "laugh with glee" message (4 techniques). +1 against a hound (3 base XP), +2 against a horned snowman (9 base). The 3-technique message does not give +XP.

I was on Ocean sight and had a bunch of turns of Red lenses when I observed that.

This is the one where I was thinking there's one neat little thing [mentioned in an earlier discussion of the Urban Legends Vol. 1]. Actually … two things. One of which is intentionally, like, buried. The other … oh, I know exactly why nobody's figured it out. OK, that makes more sense. One of which would be really easy to figure out if you were doing what's required for it to show up, but not necessarily encouraged by the design of the item. OK, that makes me feel a little bit better. I was really like "Why haven't people found this yet? Oh, OK, yeah alright." So, yeah, two things, one of which is probably slightly larger than the other.
