I believe there are two separate etheric attacks:

The specter reaches out and brushes you with its fingers. The flesh it touched is covered with a rime of frost, dealing # damage.

The specter brushes against you. The flesh it touched blackens and shrivels, dealing # damage.

Seems like this dude has a ton of Melee and Ranged def.

Huh, just got a new message against one of these:

You dive for cover.
The specter sets his feet and prepares for a powerful parry.

You punch the specter for 12 damage.
The specter pulls back you towards you, meeting you with a brutal blow for 11 damage.

You utter strange sounds that become shadowy chains, tearing from your mouth into the specter for 27 damage.

I'm wielding a black silver chain, and I have 4 melee def.

Looks like Kinak fixed the text:

You dive for cover.
The specter sets his feet and prepares for a powerful parry.

You flip out a blade and stab the specter for 10 damage.
The specter pulls you closer, meeting you with a brutal blow for 15 damage.

You hammer the specter unrelentingly, dealing 15 damage.

It may be Brutality following Parry, but it also seems to be vs. a chain-type weapon. I was wielding a black silver chain when I got this. It makes sense that their parry could catch your chain and use it to pull you closer.

EDIT: More special combat text, this time explicitly chain-related:

You dive for cover.
The specter reaches out and cuts deeply into you for 2 damage, but you duck behind cover, which absorbs all of the damage.

You flip out a blade and stab the specter for 13 damage, but the specter catches your chain and twists to avoid all of the damage.
The specter sets his feet and prepares for a powerful parry.

You slam into the specter and deal 7 damage before he can fend off the attack.
The specter slams into you and deals 1 damage before you can fend off the attack.

It's enough to make a guy want to get Twisting Chains.
