I did some testing to see which techniques are affected (the actual bonus numbers, people with mathy skills can go figure out :)) and here are the techs and their altered attack messages. They're neat.
Light of the Eye: You open your third eye, bathing the area in brilliant red light.
<opponent> lines up a powerful strike, crushing you for 44 damage, but You focus on <opponent>'s, imagining a shifting wall of crimson puzzle pieces which blocks all but 12 damage.
(typos reported)
Evil Eye (for completion's sake): You focus your gaze on <opponent>. He bursts into crimson flame, taking 33 damage.
Hex: Your hand twists into a claw of black rune-covered stone and rips into the thug for 55 damage.
Necrotic Vial (while etheric): No new message. No effect?
Channel the Deep: You chant in the language of the ancients, summoning tentacles of translucent red energy beneath the sorcerer. They rend him for 38 damage.
Call the Swarm: You gesture at <opponent> and whisper in a forgotten tongue. Black stone spiders the size of a fist rip their way out of <opponent> from the inside, dealing 67 damage.
Frost Breath: No effect.
Withering Gaze: You see thousands of years passing, forcing them on <opponent>. The weight of ages deals 64 damage to it.
Just to be sure I also tested the crystal and red lensed goggles' techs: Crystal strike, no effect; Red Metal Gaze, no effect; Voice of Wrath, no effect.
Crystal Gate: For a moment, stars seem to whirl overhead in complex patterns. Twisted light of a color you can't quite name lances down to strike the Bum, dealing 47 damage.
I'm confused by crystal gate having a special effect, since all other temporary content (red lenses, frost breath, voice of wrath) seems to not have one. Might be an undiscovered crystal gate combat message or not; complex patterns is puzzly.
Oh, when I say no effect, I mean no new combat message, maybe the bonus to damage still activates.
I cannot test Release the Hounds or Death Mask, someone please do this?
