Does the encounter happen immediately after using the list? I didn't see him in my remaining 5 or so energy of etheric

No, but it seems to happen within 10 energy spent or so.
I had this encounter about 6 energy after the first time I read a list of names and I was NOT etheric at the time of the encounter. Can anyone else confirm this is possible before I edit this page? Does that seem buggy to anyone else or has anyone ever fopught this thing while non-etheric?

Seems odd but definitely possible… I don't think anyone bothered to continue fighting these things after we failed to figure out what the talons are for. Maybe etheric isn't required under certain circumstances? I'm pretty sure I've failed to fight one before while non-etheric, but it was a long time ago.

Did anybody ever try fighting one of these guys with a tome of binding equipped?
Nothing special for fighting one with Fearsome Whispers active. Reconfirmed that having both talons equipped does nothing special either. Also, they are pretty resistant to melee damage.

As for the data, the specter seems to have 10 melee defense. The etheric defense range is still way too big because we don't know how much damage the raven eye technique does with that message.
