The gang boss encounter has different starting text each time you fight him in a run - but I didn't remember to write it down.

Also, I get a vague sense that he works like pvp clones - his hp might be kept over fights. This is largely just a gut feeling but the first two times I fought him, I lost after 5 or 6 rounds. Tried again and won after two rounds. Seems too quick but I wasn't paying a ton of attention to the combat text.
