So, with 25 energy of Charred Patch and 50 energy of Patched Pants active, I tried using my pants. I lost all energy of both effects, and got this:

You tear at your pants, saving anything that looks like it might come in handy.
You found: tough cloth

So, it looks like it's possible to recover at least some of the stuff you use on your pants. Can you only get one? Does it depend on how much energy of an effect you have left? Is it random? So much to find out!

200 energy of Fist Patch and 250 energy of Patched Pants:

You tear at your pants, saving anything that looks like it might come in handy.

You found: 5 scraps of tough cloth

You found: 4 fist patches

Tried it several times.

Pretty sure patch drops are keyed to enemy type.

Look at the description of the bloodied patch:

OmniTech special forces is supposed to have patches like this. It might just be marketing, though, because you're pretty sure OmniTech makes these patches for gangers and everybody else who wants to feel tough.

Just got two off the vigilante encounter with a Midgard security and two Gangers.

Has anybody gotten a patch to drop from a fight with an opponent who wasn't human? I wouldn't be surprised if robots, twisted hounds, and the like don't drop them. I'm hoping to find an etheric-themed one from a Third Eye Sorcerer, but so far no luck.

I spent the past two days doing slags quest and then unlocking the ghost ship; the only thing I got was a single tough cloth from someone on the docks when I went there briefly to coinfish. So most of that was against non-humans, and I didn't get much.

I've gotten the following drops, for the record:

Peace Patch (1): Dock Security
Bloodied Patch (3): Dockhand x3
Tough Cloth (8): Ghoul x3, Dock Security, Dockhand x3, Midgard Security

Out of 76 wins total.

I've been getting fist patches from the scientists in damaged buildings. Are we just gonna add these as drops to the mobs they drop from, and put soemthing like "only with elegantly torn pants equipped"?

Seems to me like that would be a ton of work and wouldn't help anyone who didn't have the pants. Anyone who does have the pants can view the full list on the pants page itself, or some related page.

Are sure you had 25 and not 24 energy of Charred Patch when you tried to [use] the pants, Crypto? My theory is that if you get your patches back if you still have their full duration active. In other words, for each 25 full energy of one of the basic patch effects running, you'll get one back, and for each 50 full energy of effect from tough cloth or one of its derivatives you'll get one of those back. That seems to fit with what Sir Cheddar reports above, and I tried it a couple of times with just a fist patch.

In other news, Kinak has had mercy on us and made the pants remember what patches are on there even if you unequip them! I has some effect from a patch running. Took off the pants, and of course the effect disappeared. But, when I put them back on, it came back with all the energy it had from before.

I'm pretty sure I used the patch and the cloth and then immediately used the pants without spending any energy. Also, judging by Sir Cheddar's numbers it looks like you get one of a patch/cloth back for every 50 energy you have of the effect. Even if the item doesn't actually provide 50 energy. Since he got 4 fist patches back with 200 energy of the effect.

I just used a fist patch (25 energy), then used my pants and got my patch back (losing the effect), three times.

Same for 2 fist patches (50 energy), 2 patches back upon use of pants.
And again for 4.

1 fist patch, 1 bloodied patch, used pants, got them back.

2 fist patches, 1 turn spent, 49 patch energy left, used pants, 1 fist patch.

I think maybe cheddar meant 100 patch energy instead of 200, or the cloth interferes with getting your patches back.
