I had absolutely no effects active when this fight occurred.

My equipment:

Here's my fight with the hawk.

First round:

You latch onto the hawk and tear a chunk out of it with your teeth, dealing 2 damage, but the hawk remains just outside your reach. It avoids all of the damage.
The hawk beats its wings, flying above your reach.

You slam into the hawk and deal 4 damage before it can fend off the attack.
The hawk batters you with its wings, dealing 11 damage.

You punch the hawk, throwing the whole weight of your body behind it and dealing 15 damage.

Second round:

You slam into the hawk and deal 6 damage before it can fend off the attack, but the hawk remains just outside your reach. It avoids all of the damage.
The hawk beats its wings, flying above your reach.

The hawk drops down on you, viciously clawing you for 22 damage.

Third round:

You latch onto the hawk and tear a chunk out of it with your teeth, dealing 15 damage, but the hawk remains just outside your reach. It avoids all of the damage.
The hawk beats its wings, flying above your reach.

You slam into the hawk and deal 12 damage before it can fend off the attack.
The hawk batters you with its wings, dealing 16 damage.

The hawk precisely claws into you for 23 damage.

An aura of electricity arcs from the hawk, dealing you 18 damage.

You've been beaten to hell!

Moments later, everything seems to return to normal. The hawk and storm both fade as though neither were ever there.

I had a sampling kit on, but it still remains to be seen if that would result in a drop. :(

Woo! Looks like the sampling kit may be what's needed.

Used data above to spade ranged defense 0≤d≤4.5; don't think there's anything else we can get from it so future data-sifters can probably ignore it. I discounted

and

Since they make the range of damage impossibly large. There's something weird going on there, maybe an end-of-fight bug since those are both with the last attack of the respective combat.

Going through and cleaning up opponent technique pages, and I'm stuck on the third one already.

This seems impossible, chain wise (from Crypto's above):

The hawk beats its wings, flying above your reach. (Beat Wings, chain 4)

The hawk batters you with its wings, dealing 16 damage. (Wing Batter, chain 5)

The hawk precisely claws into you for 23 damage. (Hawk's Talon, chain 4)

An aura of electricity arcs from the hawk, dealing you 18 damage. (Aura of Electricity, ?)

The Beat Wings:Wing Batter chain is pretty definitely 4:5 (lots of examples, Flying Eye for one). EDIT: Looking at Vholes' post later, perhaps it was bugged and changed. Now it seems the Aura of Electricity fits in nicely.
