dealt 50 damage but was defeated. No mention of the corpse being beaten up, so either it has >50 hp or a tie still results in it getting the gourd.

The unsewn version seems considerably harder than the other one. :(

Despite all the other stats being the same, confirmed that the unsewn version has -4 FD, while sewn version has -2 FD. (Dynamite does 14 and 12 damage respectively.)

NOTE: See discussion page for data. In one playthrough only one zombie used the swordplay technique, and that one dropped an ancient saber. However, we have extremely little data and cannot draw conclusions from that.
