This should probably be confirmed against another opponent before it's added to the page, but I think there's a special message when this is used to evade attacks from a chain. See:

You slam into the shaman and deal 15 damage before he can fend off the attack, but the shaman catch your chain and twists to avoid all of the damage.
The shaman sets his feet and prepares for a powerful parry.

To help spade the base defense of Parry against chain weapons

Fight against Chained Ghoul

You set your feet and prepare for a powerful parry.
The ghoul viciously jerks up on the chain holding you, then drops on you claws-first, dealing 23 damage, but you catch his chain and twist to avoid all of the damage.

No Evasion Power
5 Reactive Defense
6 Melee Defense

Afaik reactive doesn't apply at all if you evade all damage, and other defenses are always applied in the pre-evasion number. Then …
… since parry is 15 base power by itself, unless your reflexes are less than 8, it doesn't say much …

Of course it doesn't say much, xKiv. It's a single datapoint. It is helping with establishing a lower bound.

What you say doesn't make much sense because it seems you are discounting all base defenses that are not more than double the original base defense. MADNESS

xKiv is correct. As a base 15 power defense, Parry will always block 15-30 damage as long as stats are not a factor.

I know that. What does that have to do with spading the effectiveness of parry vs. chain weapons?

If anything, my datapoint is hardly useful because it successfully blocked all the damage. Not because it blocked 23.

You have spaded (with this datapoint) that the ghoul doesn't have (in this situation) an anti-parry bonus greater than 3 (if it had 4, parry could be only blocking 11-22).
That's not saying much considering that we are expecting a bonus in the other direction.

Well… xKiv, there is evidence that the Chained Ghoul actually makes evasion techs less effective. Sometimes negating their power completely if you don't have any Evasion Power. So who really knows.

I thought there was evidence to suggest that parry is, at the very least, an exception from that?

I have no idea. I remember Al postulating sometime in chat that the Chained Ghoul has the Twisting Chains skill which depowers evasion techs passively without there being any change in combat text.

So let's find out together.
