Anyone have an idea on how to pass this floor without fighting? I've spent 30 energy here and only combats come up.

Have you tried helping the scientist, or stealing his helmet?

Yeah, I gave him slags antidote. I asked Kinak and he gave a small hint - I think I need to go back down and start the ship of the damned quest so that I can talk to the waterlogged corpse - he can point the way to the stairs.

I was etheric, got the combat encounter with the corpse, and won. I found the stairs without ever running into the Bloodied Scientist. So it looks like dealing with it peacefully or otherwise is an alternate way to get to the Fifth Floor.

Just got this message for the waterlogged corpse:
As you make your way across the fourth floor, your nose is suddenly filled with the scent of sea water. Sea water?

You turn around to see a corpse behind you with one arm raised over your head, ready to bring it crashing down.

I fought at the two roads, lost, fell down to the 4th floor, and then got the stairs back to the fifth floor immediately - never seen that before, it seemed to always require fighting a few enemies to get back up. To investigate.
