I got this on what might possibly the first time I've ever used an improbable gun. First time this run at any rate.

I trying to make some red lenses stuff I was missing, and ran the following combat:

You take a few careful shots at the dockhand with silver bullets, dealing 26 damage.
The dockhand punches you for 2 damage.
The dockhand punches you for 2 damage.

You lob a frag grenade into the midst of your enemies. It explodes, peppering the area with shards of metal, and deals 8 damage.

You rain bullets down on your enemies for 28 damage.

You've won the battle!

You gained 7 credits!

You found: 2 dirty old trenchcoats

You found: knit cap

You found: cup of Joe
You learned a new Technique: Conservative Fire

You survey your victory, tinted fiery red by the goggles' lenses. That was certainly an interesting experiment. It's hard to avoid laughing in delight at the results.

You've earned 2 XP in Perception

This page says getting the technique involves using the improbable gun somehow. The Silver Bullets page says using that technique with the improbably gun grants this technique. So, is that confirmed and not on this page for some reason or is it not confirmed yet?

Is there a flavorful reason Silver Bullets gets you the technique? It does say this gun is too large for modern bullets, but that doesn't seem all that compelling to me.

I figure it's worth testing other chain 6 (and 8?) techniques with this gun to see if any of those give you the conservative fire technique. Maybe it's just giving you a handy followup.

The description on the improbable gun does say

So it's hard to complain, really, but it's slow enough you want to make each shot count.

Silver Bullets talks about how you "take a few careful shots". But, yeah, by that logic Precise Shot and maybe Steady Shot should work too.

Even when this technique gets its bonus damage for following another ranged attack, Full Auto is much better as a closer and only slightly worse as filler. Stream of Needles is better if you have a needler equipped. Cover Fire is way, way better in any circumstances if you can get it. Steady Shot is better filler, but admittedly not as good otherwise. At any rate, considering what you have to go through to learn this one it's sort of underwhelming. That makes me wonder if maybe we're missing something important about it.

By Al's Calculator, the Base Damage of this technique when you fire a silver bullet w/ murderous intent is 11.

I'm not getting the murderous intent message with the gun equipped:

You let the rat move close, then fire a single blast of smoking polysteel at point blank range, dealing 22 damage.
The rat slips closer and bites you, dealing 2 damage.

You take a few careful shots at the rat with silver bullets, dealing 13 damage.

You fire a single carefully reserved bullet at the rat, dealing 16 damage.

Has anybody ever gotten this technique while etheric? I'm starting to think non-etheric is a condition, unless I've been really unlucky or am missing something else important.

Conservative Fire, with improbable gun equipped, does not seem to interact with Skeletal Burst or Organic Firing
