Theory on the 5 ghoul encounter

I suspect that choosing the "Stay Motionless" option a few times in the Ghouls in the Fog encounter is what triggers the combat with 5 ghouls.

I got the 5 ghouls encounter, only having gotten the Ghouls In The Fog encounter once before (and I chose to charge them). So I don't think that works.

Encounters before reaching the 5 Ghouls, Dry Riverbed and A Lake Covered by Mists without leaving the location

Run #1

First time in location

1. Chain Ghoul -> beaten to hell
2. 1 Ghoul -> victory
3. 3 Ghouls -> victory
4. Guard in the Mists -> Try to talk -> Ask why he's here (option to lure him back as bait available)
5. 1 Ghoul -> victory
6. Chain Ghoul -> victory
7. A Lake Covered by Mists -> Find somewhere more hospitable
8. Chain Ghoul -> victory
9. Dry Riverbed -> Break out the NitroX
10. 1 Ghoul
11. Guard in the Mists -> Lure him back as bait
12. Skull in the Flames -> run away
13. 1 Ghoul - victory
14. Chain Ghoul -> beaten to hell
15. Chain Ghoul -> tie
16. 3 Ghouls -> victory
17. 3 Ghouls -> tie
18. Dry Riverbed -> Break out the NitroX
19. A Lake Covered by Mists -> Find somewhere more hospitable
20. 1 Ghoul -> victory
21. Skull in the Flames -> run away
22. Chain Ghoul -> beaten to hell
23. Skull in the Flames -> run away
24. Dry Riverbed -> Break out the NitroX
25. Hunting Shapes
26. Guard in the Mists -> Lure him back as bait
27. 3 Ghouls -> success
~ Many turns later I still don't encounter the 5 Ghoul encounter though I did start running away from the chain ghouls and get beaten by a 3 Ghoul encounter after equiping the sketchbook.
