The enchantment on my mirror-handled pistol just changed from this to +7 Strength. I just got an instance of Mirror Shot, which might be related. I also have 246 energy of Crone's Perspective and 41 (53 buffed) Strength.
Looking at Mag's mirror-handed pistol with maiden's perspective, the description said it gave +7 Perception. Highly likely that it changes based on what perspective effect you have active.
It definitely is NOT enough to fight enemies with the mirror-handled pistol and mirror heart vest equipped with over 200 of a Perspective buff active to unlock the stat buff and unlock the ability to gain the mirror techniques.
Now what about doing the Fractured Reflection stuff? Before I tried fighting to unlock the buff, I went through a bunch of Fractured Reflection (Autumn) interactions. Almost all of them. What I didn't do is give the reflected strand while the old woman was in the Stout Tower, Kick Back or Climb the trunk of the Bare Tree, Dance about, Eat them straight, or probably Dig in the dirt on the Mushroom Pool. I did everything in the Small Hut besides maybe Take a nap and Search under everything. All of this was done with over 100 energy of Crone's Perspective.
Of note from my attempts that day: Did not get the special messages from the actions "Ask about the tower," get the 50 energy buff from "Ask about her" or get the special message from "Head upstairs" with the mislit mask equipped of course.
After this I spent another whole game day mostly fighting with starting over 300 energy of Crone's Perspective which eventually dwindled down to over 200. I spent a better part of another game day also mostly fighting still keeping over 200 energy of Crone's Perspective. Still failing to unlock the buff from A Reflection of the Path Before You, I decided to use my little remaining energy to do some Fractured Reflection (Autumn) stuff.
I didn't do much. In the Bare Tree I Leap for branches and may have tried Climb the trunk. In the Mushroom Pool I went for the action Pick them. I even chose Explore this floor in the Stout Tower and learned that though the skeleton regenerates every rollover, the old lady remains in the Small Hut.
Here's where something special happened. From the Small Hut I Ask about the tower and get the special message with the gnarled finger. I later Ask about her and also get the improved 50 buff rather than the 30. From there I decided to try one more time with knocking the skeleton off the tower with the mislit mask. When I Head upstairs with it equipped, I knock the skeleton down and got the special message about "A great relief falls over you, as though the largest burden in your life has just been removed and you feel strong."
I checked my equipment then and see that I have finally unlocked the buff from A Reflection of the Path Before You.
Summer Fractured Reflection
I unlocked the A Reflection of the Path Before You for the Fractured Reflection (Summer). This one is very simple. All you need to do is give the Maiden in this reflection one of your reflected scales.
Unlocking the effect in Autumn has a few hoops to jump but isn't too bad. First you will need to free the Crone from the tower. If you killed the skeleton rather than giving her a reflected mask you will need to wait until rollover when the skeleton resets. At this point sequence is important. Failing to speak to the Crone about the tower before killing the skeleton will not trigger the effect. Speaking to her first appears to be the trigger for getting the additional message about "a great relief falling over you" when you push the skeleton and after receiving that message you're all set.
