I'm trying to figure out if there's any way to test Evasion techniques vs Ranged and Fire attacks underwater, other than Gang Warfare (Sabotage Valve). I think I've done it before, but now I can't find anything that will work here.
Opponents you can fight underwater:
Deep Hunter - Melee/Stealth
Foreign Shark - Melee
Ruins Octopus - Melee/Stealth (I think at one point Toss Masonry was thought to be Ranged but it's Stealth?)
Writhing Mass - Melee
Palace Guard - Melee/Stealth/Etheric
Ocean King - Etheric
Kraken - Melee
Rail Serpent - Melee/Stealth
Energized Serpent - Melee/Stealth/Etheric
Albino Crocodile - Melee
Vholes jokingly suggests using the Nightmares-in-a-jar underwater, I'm not sure this has been tested (Living Sludge and Mold Golem uses Ranged). Are there any other opponents we could find underwater?
EDIT to add: Tin Armored Drone/Tin Soldier are explicitly prevented from using underwater. I vaguely recall seeing the Winged Hunter underwater before but that might have been unintentional, and doesn't use Ranged/Fire anyway.
Leaping Dodge has theoretically been tested for Fire underwater but looking at the edit history, that might not have actually been checked. I think that's the only other Evasion technique that has a special underwater form, other than Cloak of Feathers (which I was trying to test). (Oh, and Swimming Charm vs aquatic opponents).
EDIT: Okay, found one! Hollow Monstrosity can be fought underwater in Lake Metroplex, and it does count as an underwater fight:
A freak current propels you gracefully, like a diving penguin.
The monstrosity panics and tramples you with its flaming bulk for 28 fire damage, but the currents block all but 9 damage.
EDIT: Bipedal Rat also shows up underwater, and might be an easier option to fight.
A freak current propels you gracefully, like a diving penguin.
The rat pops up to shoot you for 3 ranged damage.
This was a fun little spading adventure, I appreciate all the complexities of combat in this game. :)
EDIT: Now to find a human opponent to fight underwater for Unexpected Grab…
