"The specter gives you a disappointed look, as though you failed to meet some basic expectation."

Odd, this sounds like a nonetheric message for his gaze attack, but I don't know why that would happen. Bug?

Fight stats

You open your third eye, bathing the area in golden light.
The specter reaches out and brushes you with its fingers. The flesh it touched is covered with a rime of frost, dealing 1 damage, but golden light weighs down his attack, preventing all of the damage.

You rake your fingers through the air. Arcs of green light match their movements, crashing into the specter for 27 damage.
The specter glares down at you with contempt, his gaze leaving a furrow in your flesh for 16 damage.

You make a beckoning gesture at the specter. Spiders pour out of the specter, tearing wounds and biting him for 17 damage, but the wall absorbs all of the damage.
The specter walks into the nearest wall, leaving a rime of frost.

round 2:
You call a chunk of the specter into your waiting mouth, leaving a gaping wound that deals 24 damage.
The specter drifts forward, straight through you. Your entire body is wracked with chills.

You make a beckoning gesture at the specter. Spiders pour out of the specter, tearing wounds and biting him for 26 damage.

You rake your fingers through the air. Arcs of green light match their movements, crashing into the specter for 22 damage.

I got the failed to meet basic expectation message too. I'm pretty sure it's due to having an ancient timepiece equipped.

With no equipment equipped and high brow active, both specters are disappointed in me.
With no equipment equipped and no high brow, they glare at me.
With ancient timepiece equipped and no high brow, they glare at me.

With:
Hat: dashing hat
Weapon: gauzy parasol
Offhand: anniversary pocket mirror
Shirt: immaculate suit coat
Pants: pressed slacks
Gadget: fine gold monocle
still glares at me.
