Using this with a moon tide tech already in your hand unlock another instance of moon tide chains, so you can have up to four, and have them in different phases.
(because you don't lose the unlocked moon tide tech if you don't use it)
I'm not sure where to put this. I got a new message fighting the Rag Man. But I don't know whether this technique always blocks Etheric techniques, or if it's a special interaction with the Rag Man's cape I was wearing, or something else. Anyway, make of this what you will:
You mutter a few words, then howl wordlessly to the heavens.
The Rag Man gives you the Evil Eye and you burst into flames. The malefic green fire deals you 22 damage, but your focus is unshakable and you shrug off all of the damage.
I can't seem to get the version of this message where you don't mutter a few words.
I got it with: air filter, tome of binding, studious nature, slags poisoning, ocean sight.
I am having no luck getting the form where you focus for a long moment before howling instead of muttering a few words while Outdoors. Doesn't seem to matter whether I use the technique all by itself or in a chain (and I've tried all the ones I can think of). Having no equipment but the belt, nothing but the belt and a wolfman mask or distorted wolfman mask, or a full set of gear doesn't seem to make a difference. Having RAGE or Burning Vision doesn't help. Having Melee Power greater than Etheric Power doesn't help, nor the reverse. Various chance of encounters modifiers don't seem to make a difference. Oddly enough, I do consistently focus for a long moment while underground or indoors (and in fact can't find a form where I mutter even if I try). But if I go outside it's back to muttering.
Kinak said getting the wolfman avatar requires "persistence and focus". Maybe his choice of words is just a coincidence, but either way it'd be nice to know the trigger for that variant of the technique.
Hunger is a good idea, but I'm muttering at both 0 and 40 Hunger (on The Quad). One thing about being a werewolf is that you take a lot of damage in fights, so I've tried the technique at full health and also when I'm pretty beaten up with no change.
The problem with having a focus equipped is, as you note, that they all conflict with the wolfskin belt (except for the fragile focus, which wasn't released until years after the wolfman avatar was a thing) for the Gadget slot. That doesn't rule out the Omega injection or Worrying Bite, but it'd be really weird for that message not to be possible with the belt.
