I got the message that Arkaim said would allow you to learn this tech from lake serpents. This is after getting all the mundane protein receiver messages long ago and after about 15 or so successful uses of protein code with burning vision active.

Items equipped:

Hat: immersive visor
Weapon: memory sidearm
Offhand: shield of scales
Shirt: scaled gang jacket
Pants: scaled pants
Gadget: Fang PDA

I have never used serpent venom this run.

Protein receiver:

You load up the receiver on your comm and run it to see what might be hanging out there.

There we go, the whole thing is nice and orderly now. For a creature as strange as that one, it's interesting how little is actually going on in its body.

Huh. You're not sure why you didn't notice it before… past the simple protein signatures, there's a pattern burning its way through.

It's hard to say what it means, but damned if it's not interesting.

You've mined this vein pretty deep. If there's anything else to learn about these critters it's through hands-on experience and not protein analysis.

How many receivers have you used between getting the "mined pretty deep" for the first time and this? (referring to "definition of insanity")

It might be that only sites that are infected since the last receiver was used give new information. So maybe you have to seed the Net in between using receivers?

Mag- I did use protein code on a few infected site defenders before using the receivers, but I doubt it is a trigger. xKiv-I have not used any receivers between getting the pattern message and the mined deep message.

Also, apparently, both me and Arkaim are getting bonus XP from serpents, although I'm not sure if this is affected by the pattern message or the mined deep message before it.

I guess another question from us who don't know yet - is fighting lake/terrible serpents (with a specific effect?) necessary for getting the special receiver message (the hands-on experience mentioned by the mined-deep message)?

It kind of looks like the underwater and the Blood of the Ancients messages are switched - "coming up from the depths" sounds like an underwater attack and many of the BotA messages mention black stone.

Currently:
With Blood of the Ancients:

You let Eclipse expand into the pattern of a great serpent. It comes roaring up from the depths, tearing into <opponent> for x damage.

Underwater:

You let Eclipse expand into the pattern of a great serpent, it's black stone scales cracked into strange runes. The serpent crushes <opponent> for x damage.

Can you verify this is working as intended Kinak?

I got the "mined pretty deep" message with all the normal stuff, then started going to unlock serpent pattern. I seeded against 10 opponents, then used a receiver while etheric. Just got the normal mined pretty deep message. Then I did another 10, but this time with burning vision and also wearing a scaled vest and scaled pants, with the shield of scales, and got the pattern message.

I finally got the burning message too!
I seeded 10 opponents today just to be sure, then switched into eclipse duration dressing, made receiver, made and used a sparkling eclipse for 78 fae sight (after forgetting to switch clothes, but there were scaled pants in there for some reason (but not shirt, that's stained bandages)), used receiver.
Full effect list (after): Puzzled Out (1), Fae Sight (77), Burning Vision (77), The Jitters (82), Practiced Shot (198), Ardent Investigator (8940).
