The version for having a tome of binding and following Ranged seemed to work for Single Shot, Focused Burst and Bloodied Draw, but not Stream of Needles. Possibly there's some flag that needles wouldn't result in smoke? That'd make sense, but the non-needler version would still just be a regular shot…

Ah, good find with the tome of binding. I knew there had to be something more to that murmuring. :)

Looking over the Ranged techniques, some of them are maybe tagged as not using real bullets eg. Chipped Tracer, Distant Focus?, Spinal Shot, Speargun, Stream of Needles, others.

Though a lot of those, if you don't have a special weapon equipped, it does seem to just use normal shooting like you said for non-needler version.

Nothing special versus the Spectral Sailor, with or without the smoldering gun and/or tome of binding.
