bone spikes+scales+organs and 4 bone equipment including horse skull (and hey, #5 was an exoskeleton!), no change jumping into moor with skeleton present and defeating him. Skeletal arms don't change either. Nor is it a costume.

I thought Argeth was on to something with Frigid Bones ("the whistling of cold wind through their bones") but no change there either (although the horse managed to kill me).

Nor did Stolen Artistry feed off the experience by summoning any new bones (in the three times I tried).

6 fire power seems safe against the rider. As long as you don't use the really hard hitting fire techs like molotov cocktail and tin artillery. You'll hit as low as 4 with the Nitro and as high as 10 with microrocket or NitroX.

Al may have been playing it a bit too safe with his 8-14 as possibly unsafe as I hit the rider plenty of times between 8-10 with no effect.

So i was hoping that superbuffing and then killing him in a single attack would have him be dead instead of falling off his horse, but I hit him for 138 with gem break and he fell off and left the horse instead. I suppose I shall have to fight him the long way.

It looks like knocking the rider off is enough to send him back into the painting. I climbed into the painting, got that combat, then ran away. I then got the combat encounter with him, and did enough damage to knock the rider off the horse, then ran away. When I tried climbing into the painting again, the rider was there. So there's no combat encounter that starts with just a riderless horse, it looks like.

A good way to get the sword is to have 5 Ranged Power and fill your deck up with 10x-each easy-to-obtain 7/8 base damage ranged techs. You can manage this with a detailed sketch or Gunslinger, plus a retromodern scope. Or just a mysterious puzzle pyramid. Every other slot/buff should go to melee defense. Strongly advise you have 70+ HP no matter what you do, though.

Techs- Shotgun Blast/Focused burst+ Considered Shot/Explosive shot/judgement/spinal shot+conservative fire/steady shot/stream of needles (if you can equip a needler without getting too much ranged power) + indirect fire

Supplemental Fire techs- nitroX + explosives engineering + 0 fire power or frag grenade/nitro + EE + 2 fire power, molotov cocktail +0 fire power without EE.
