I wonder if we can recognize the melody with the right music playin (or perhaps its the metroplex u fight song).
Testing Erenoth's idea (above) for the "Take fifty!" option:
no change:
Ocean Song (etheric)
Spooky Music (etheric)
Brain Staples (etheric)
Emerald Gift (sober)
Dance Music (sober)
Extreme Bass Player (sober)
Extreme Bass XIII Player (sober)
571 (sober)
Hunt for the Gift (sober, etheric)
watching student horror film beforehand (etheric)
Halloween Spirit (etheric)
untried:
-limited time (Bitter Song, Classic Carols, Halloween Lament, OmniCarols, Viral Carols)
-unearthly derivatives that predate the encounter (anything from the Midgard player, Emerald Meditation, Nostalgia instruments, feather encounter that mentions music)
-fighting the Quad Psycho the same day (he hums the school fight song)
In the beginning, men were mortal.
Now that I have killed the hipster today in a vain hope of unlocking something in the Hall of Paintings, it occurs to me that the unlabeled music (dropped by hipsters) might be worth trying here.
Thanks for reminding me about this interrupted project, I've started it at last and will update the post above as I test more. Unlabeled (Spooky Music) doesn't accomplish anything.
EDIT: well, there weren't that many music options after I ruled out limited time items (besides Hunt for the Gift, which seemed likely) & unearthly items that predate the hall of paintings. Nothing got me anything. I could try testing them all again in the other forms (sober or etheric), or after drinking OJ the day before, but it doesn't seem likely… we're just trying to recognize a dang song, after all.
EDIT: Found this on podcast 31-40:
Q: The guy in the art museum is "humming a strange melody you feel like you should recognize." Red herring or something to be found there?
A: I don't honestly recall. [50:00] More of just an internal reference for something than the code is going to throw something at you.
So I'm just going to stop trying. The only two semi-reasonable options I can think of are the Rhythm game at the workstation or the quad psycho humming the school fight song. Do both, donate to the dude, then do both again if you really love a small chance at a new sentence.
In the beginning, men were mortal.
From the recent update, I just got on round 5 or 6 or so from fighting the museum hipster (evading every round):
You set your feet and prepare for a powerful parry.
The hipster runs from the fight. You've won the battle!
You found: museum guidebook
You've earned 1 XP in Reflexes
Not sure if it is intended if you still get XP and rewards, or maybe only some special rewards?
I fought a dancer in the Happy Hour, and she ran away on the second round. 1 XP, nothing else.
Nothing special for lying about being broke five times, getting the "You congratulate yourself for not strangling him, though" message five times, and then strangling him for real with the yellowed lace garotte.
Writing for the long-neglected GOC Casefiles canon.
