I only seem to get this if I have a Do Nothing in my hand when I reflect a gaze. In logs below, the *** marks where I actually got an instance of it.

When I reflect 1 of 2 damage, the base power seems to be -1, if it's based on just etheric power/defense. Did 4-8 damage against an eye with 5 EP.

I do not believe "do nothing" is required. I got this on the second round of battle after performing a single attack on an enemy at the slags shoreline.

You line up a perfect shot, breathe, and fire, dealing 27 damage.
The eye focuses its gaze on you. You feel a strange tingling, then start bleeding as a hole is bored into your flesh, dealing 12 damage. You reflect part of its gaze, avoiding 6 damage.

You reflect the gaze at the eye, slashing it like shards of glass for 18 damage.
The eye beats its wings, flying above your reach.

Could you have had *any* chain-5 technique in your hand (with that deck)?

ETA: maybe we are in a wolfbelt-like situation again, where certain (types of) techniques are transformed in a certain way?
