You queue up a batch for Midgard Shield containing Fractal Assault and Basic Filter.

The Midgard Shield tries to block Fractal Assault, but you protect your function with Basic Filter.

You batter the shield, but don't have the power to punch through.

I.e., Basic Filter gets used for defense and not fractal-buffing if the fractal tool hasn't been used yet.

Basic filter always gets used for defense, I believe- only the 3 default functions can be used to buff it?

You're disagreeing with yourself, back when you edited the page in March. :)

I didn't test it in an ordinary situation, though; it's possible March-you were misled by the name of Basic Filter and the description of Fractal Assault: "Interacts with basic […] functions".
