As OgremanSam points out above, the fight scene with pistol seems semi-random. I just got 2 Perc and 2 Will. I suspect 2 random XP + 2 Will XP. Is there any significance to random XP?

EDIT: tried this encounter several dozen more times, always getting 2 XP Perc, 2 XP Will. Things tried:
- orange juice/focused perception/studious nature
- buffing/debuffing my stats
- tome of binding, investigator's hat, holocaust coat, improbable pistol, Myers sampler, parasol, etheric, non-etheric, etc
