My first run-in with a snow maiden:

You knife the maiden for 8 damage.
The maiden howls like the north wind, gathering whirling snow like a cloak.

You flick droplets of water from your icy blade. Each becomes a shard of ice, raining down on the maiden for 1 damage.
The snows gather around her blade, expanding it into a blade of frost. The maiden slashes it into you for 23 damage.

You howl like the north wind, sending the frozen blades whirling into the maiden for 26 damage.
The maiden darts towards you to bite into you with a fang of frost for 13 damage.

You knife the maiden for 8 damage.
The blade in her hand expands like frost growing across a window, catching you for 7 damage.

You reach out to the fire, gathering it around the maiden for 2 damage.

—-

You stab the maiden with your melting blade for 13 damage.
The maiden howls like the north wind, gathering whirling snow like a cloak.

You circle the maiden, eventually just knifing her for 10 damage.
The snows gather around her blade, expanding it into a blade of frost. The maiden slashes it into you for 12 damage.

The maiden darts towards you to bite into you with a fang of frost for 20 damage.

The maiden viciously slashes you for 20 damage.

You've been beaten to hell!

When you come to, the snows are gone, but your numb hands are wrapped around a frozen rose.

You found: frozen rose

And the next fight, which I won:

+ show block

You snap and take the maiden off guard, slashing into her for 9 damage.
The maiden viciously slashes you for 13 damage.

You flick droplets of water from your icy blade. Each becomes a shard of ice, raining down on the maiden for 1 damage.
The maiden darts towards you to bite into you with a fang of frost for 4 damage.

You howl like the north wind, sending the frozen blades whirling into the maiden for 25 damage.
The blade in her hand expands like frost growing across a window, catching you for 9 damage, but the whirling blades block all of the damage.

You knife the maiden for 5 damage.
The maiden viciously slashes you for 11 damage.

You grin distressingly while cutting into the maiden for 12 damage.
The maiden darts towards you to bite into you with a fang of frost for 5 damage.

You stab the maiden with your melting blade for 28 damage.
The blade in her hand expands like frost growing across a window, but you move too unexpectedly for the growing frost to catch.

You slip behind the maiden and stab her for 14 damage.

You've won the battle!

The blade in your hand refreezes into an icy razor.
You learned a new Technique: Blade of Frost (2)

You've earned 1 XP in Perception

You've earned 1 XP in Reflexes

You've earned 1 XP in Strength

You've earned 1 XP in Will

Beat her a second time, with a frozen rose equipped. No apparent change, got two instances of Blade of Frost again. Also, it seems that in addition to having energy of Thawing Blade, you may need to actually make use of some of the blade of the snows related techniques while outdoors in order to get the snowstorm to come. Not sure on any precise details there, though.

The blade in your hand refreezes into an icy razor.

You learned a new Technique: Blade of Frost (3)

I have a ton of effects active (won't list them) and somewhere around 60+ energy of Thawing Blade.

Moral of the Story: Nothing special for killing her with Prison of Ice or other Etheric goodness. However, I probably did not get Blood in the Snow, due to my super-high defenses and the shortness of the fight.

I just lost to her, but didn't get any rose, didn't lose any turns of Thawing Blade (started with 23, ended at 22 from the one turn I lost from normal energy expenditure):

I'm trying to reproduce the following version of Blade of Frost but no one has moved too fast for me (it's not vs. Melee or vs. Evasion).

You stab the maiden with your melting blade for 28 damage.

A couple examples where this didn't work, one vs. Perception, one vs. Reflexes

The blade in your hand expands like frost growing across a window, but tjackson moves too unexpectedly for the growing frost to catch.
Tjackson carefully sets down her spider drone and coaxes it open. It unfurls and crawls onto you, then stabs you with its tiny legs. It takes you by surprise and deals 19 damage.

The blade in your hand expands like frost growing across a window, but Jack Dacre moves too unexpectedly for the growing frost to catch.
Jack Dacre flips out a switchblade and slashes you for 9 damage.

(these are the only two instances where I noticed this, but used snow blade ~dozens of times against Tjackson and Jack a bunch of times in pvp (and a bunch of non-pvp opponents too.))

EDIT: Mag points out it's probably stealth, which is consistent with what I saw on the snow maiden.

Maybe variations in technique type? Similar to the "turn off the lights" fortification, where spamming one type of tech means it will work, but mixing it up means it won't.

The amount of instances you receive for Blade of Frost looks to be related to how much energy of Thawing Blade you have upon winning.

With 181 energy of Thawing Blade:
The blade in your hand refreezes into an icy razor.
You learned a new Technique: Blade of Frost (9)
