I got this encounter on the Waterfront (so, apparently, no need to be underground). I had Hologame Meditations active and the hologame tome program running, and had gotten the "rocky form" message from the HGS. I had been using Words of Light in a bunch of previous fights, if that matters. I had poked Kinak about whether the unlock was broken before. He was cryptic, as usual, but my sense is that, yes, it was.

Well, I beat it, but got no drop or technique or anything. Since you probably need a PDA running hologame tome in your gadget slot, it seems unlikely you'd need a Myers sampling kit or salvaging tools to get a special drop. Maybe dual laser?

I expected the Boulder Throw technique the troll uses to be Ranged, but with 3 Ranged Defense and 19 Etheric Defense it's doing ~2 points of damage to me, so it looks like it's Etheric.

It looks to me like I can only meet the troll when I have high HP (more than 50%?).

Anyone know what they did to get Petrifying Roar? I have beat the troll several times with nothing special happening.

I've only gotten it once, but all I did was manage to win the fight after gaining energy of petrified flesh.
