From salvaging the metallic wasp while Etheric:
You break down the item for its component parts:

You salvaged: 1 silver ingot

You salvaged: 1 steel ingots

You learned a new Technique: Zombie Idoru

I'm pretty sure this is the wrong technique. We'll have to pick up the correct one once Kinak fixes things.

I salvaged a couple wasps while Etheric just now but didn't get anything special. I have expert salvager but only got a steel ingot if that matters. Did you have anything else that might trigger something?

Kinak replaced my Zombie Idoru instances with a chain-3 Stealth technique called Metal Sting. I had salvaged four wasps and got steel ingot + silver ingot and the technique every one of those times.

I tried it again just now, and again got steel ingot, silver ingot, and Metal Sting.

My effects (both times when salvaging):
Puzzled Out (5)
Ocean Sight (8)
Released Cricket (8)
Blurred Eyes (10)
Neural Realignment (30)
On The Prowl (78)
Lotus Map (112)
Ardent Investigator (233)
Cast (336)

Outfit (second time when salvaging):
Equipped Items
Hat: red-lensed goggles
Weapon: blade of the snows
Offhand: shock shield
Shirt: feathered cloak
Pants: shark hide pants
Gadget: Myers sampling kit

Cyberware: no cyberware
Furniture: descrambled TV, chemistry set, brick figure

I forgot what I was wearing when I obtained the tech the first time around, but I didn't have any of the equipment bugs.

I don't have Expert Salvager, and salvaging 9 wasps while etheric I just got individual steel or silver ingots.

An additional point of information (in addition to effect/outfit information previously mentioned) is that I did have a charge of orange juice running, but I suspect I had already used it up that day getting ahold of baseball statistics while hacking.

I salvaged five wasps in total when I was at zero Energy, getting silver, steel and the technique every time. Four wasps, which gave the bugged Zombie Idoru technique, and then one after the bug fix, one that gave Metal Sting. I am now out of metallic wasps.

I learned Metal Sting with the same outfit that Penguinpyro had, and these effects:

Released Cricket (30)
Ocean Sight (32)
Bone Spikes (40)
Burning Vision (40)
Tropical Relaxation (140)

And just getting a silver ingot as an item result.

Just having the closest I could get to the effects common to both PP and Crypto — Fae Sight and Released Cricket — active and the Myers sampling kit equipped didn't get me the technique on salvage. My guess now is that, since this is a stealth technique, it's the Stealth Power from the Blade of the Snows that's the key.

I got an instance of the technique while Etheric, blade of the snows, Myers sampler; otherwise naked. Shouldn't take long to test if that's a knife thing or a stealth thing; and whether the sampling kit is needed.

Got the technique with only a navigator's penknife equipped, Fae Sight and Released Cricket. Had a net of 3 Stealth Power.
