I had a podcast question that got completely out of control and rampaged its way into Kinak's inbox before I could stop it.

I'm wondering about toxic items, in particular the venomous angel and the toxic spear, but also the toxic crystal and toxic octopus eye. You've said on old podcasts that there's something there and it's more than the +1 XP you get if you win fights with Serpent Venom active. You've also said the interaction is with a technique that doesn't get used much.

My best guess for the unloved technique is Inject Venom, because based on what we know it doesn't seem especially powerful and all other things being equal it's better to hurt enemies right when you use a technique rather than the end of the round. My other idea is Withering Gaze, because it comes from toxic tears, which are crafted from destroying angel. Also, toxic octopus eye is an eye.

I've tried:

• using these techniques with various combinations of toxic items equipped.
• using the toxic spear with these techniques and all known spear-related techniques. (Really want to spray toxins on people, or, heck, even myself at this point.)
• fighting with these and various serpent-y items equipped (and having plumbed the depths of the protein database).
• fighting serpents.
• taking Eclipse with toxic items equipped
• chaining Withering Gaze with other gaze techniques like Evil Eye with these equipped
• having a Myers sampling kit equipped to scoop up excess toxins/weird poisoning by-products after combat
• using Black Spores, since it's a mushroom technique and the destroying angel is a mushroom
• having Fae Sight for all of the above, because mushrooms

I think the main thing you would have noticed in there is pretty subtle. There are some other interactions you've gotten close to (some of which are so long undiscovered even I'd forgotten them).

But there definitely should have been some more in there. Added some new stuff to techniques, including a toxic spear one with hunting spear that you definitely would have discovered. The others aren't directly on that list, so I'll leave them unspoken for now.

So I'm sending up the spade-signal. There's new things to find and also some super obscure old ones, apparently.

Toxic spear now has special poisoning results for Spear Hunting, both normally and Vs. Melee / Evasion. Spear Throw and Speargun seem to be unaffected.

EDIT: Withering Gaze is enhanced with a poison apple or venomous angel equipped. Toxic crystal had no effect.

EDIT 2: poison apple and venomous angel seem to change how poison damage is calculated. Envenomed Fang changed from doing 1 to (Damage done) poison damage to (Damage done) to (2*Damage Done) poison damage. At 115 Reflexes and 10 stealth power, Inject Venom did 10-20 poison damage instead of the expected 1-10, which also fits the adjusted Envenomed Fang formula. Toxic crystal and toxic spear didn't change the damage.

I swear I tried Withering Gaze with a venomous angel equipped. Guess I wasn't sharp-eyed enough to spot the difference between "toxic" and "decaying". Good thing GoldS' gaze is less decayed than mine. :)

So with these ancient interactions discovered at long last, have we finally uncovered the things you had hinted about on various podcasts of yore or are there still more toxic secrets yet to be found?

You're actually right, I misspoke. The damage adjustment is the one that's always been there.

I… think so? If I was talking about there being a major undiscovered poison thing, this is probably it :)

There's a couple other bits here and there (along with the stuff I added), but that was the central one.
