Intro (damaged buildings)
A scarred woman sits in the middle of the floor, tending a strange green fire. She looks up as you approach.
"Ah, you must be the one Lo was talking about."
She stands up to greet you. "My name is… Helen, actually, but everyone's called me Hel for years, so I'd suggest you use that. Welcome to my humble abode."
What's going on?
Let's go
And the weird fire?
I need some time (End of conversation)
What's going on?/Drones?
She finds a slightly more comfortable looking pile of rubble and sits down. "Well, the patrols have gotten worse. Drones everywhere. They've got some scientists trying to investigate the building. Think that's just bad luck but the drones…" she pauses to take a breath.
"The drones I'm worried about. Midgard is planning something. It doesn't have anything to do with me… I hope. But I need to get out soon."
Let's go
And the weird fire?
I need to think (End of conversation)
Let's go
Hel leans towards you conspiratorially. "Their patrols… the drones have gotten so thick I can't even leave the building, but I do have an idea. If you could get your hands on one of those containment suits… that should be enough to fool the drones." She leans back.
"And the humans are twice as lazy, so we won't have to worry about them."
Let's do it
Here you go (If you have at least part of a containment suit (normal or heavy works, ripped does not))
What about that weird fire?
I'll be back to talk (End of conversation)
And the weird fire?/What about that weird fire?
She walks over to the flickering green flame. "This? I call it witchfire… seems like a good name. It feeds on the dust and grime that float around here, just need to gather it up."
"The important thing is, the drones can't see it. There are so many now… they'd notice any normal fire. But only the living can see this."
Drones?
Let's go then
I need to explore more (End of conversation)
Let's do it/Let's go then
She nods slowly. "Alright, excellent. I'll meet you at the base of the tower here. Just inside the front doors, hopefully the drones won't notice me."
"As soon as we've got that containment suit, we should be able to sneak out right under their filthy little corp noses." Hel makes her way back towards the ground floor.
You've gained a new contact: Hel
(End of conversation)
Here you go
Partial suit:
"No," she shakes her head. "They're not looking for you, but they have an… unfortunate amount of biological data on me. I'll need the full suit if I'm going to leave the building."
"Not being paranoid. Well, being paranoid, but sometimes it pays to be paranoid and it always pays to be paranoid when you're dealing with Midgard."
With only ripped or cracked suit parts:
"No," she shakes her head. "They're not looking for you, but they have an… unfortunate amount of biological data on me. I'll need the full suit if I'm going to leave the building."
"Some of these parts look usable, though. You'll need a decent blowtorch, but you might be able to piece something together."
"I don't have one here, but you should be able to find one on the black market… gangs, arms runners, shady backrooms of bars. Used to be I knew every two-bit smuggler in the city, but those days are gone." She stares off into space for a moment before snapping her focus back to you.
"Not being paranoid. Well, being paranoid, but sometimes it pays to be paranoid and it always pays to be paranoid when you're dealing with Midgard."
Full suit:
You hand her the containment suit you've been carrying around. (or one of various other options as documented below, depending which part(s) have equipped)
"Oh, you've already got a suit. You're… exceptionally well-prepared. Good." She pulls the suit on and makes her way back towards the ground floor.
"Make your way back out of the Slags. I'll follow you out."
You've gained a new contact: Hel
You lose: (heavy) containment helmet*
You lose: (heavy) containment suit top*
You lose: (heavy) containment suit pants*
(End of conversation)
* She will take the normal containment suit parts over the heavy ones if you have both
Intro (damaged buildings, before rescue)
I hate to be pushy, but being this close to the ground makes me nervous. Do you have the suit yet?
Here
Let's Talk (no time)
What suit again?
I'm on it
Here/You mean this suit?
(Without a containment suit:)
No… that's not quite it. I need the whole containment suit: helmet, top, and pants. Otherwise, they might see through it.
Too many drones to risk it, I'm sorry.
(End of conversation)
(Without a containment suit, but with ripped containment top, ripped containment pants or cracked containment helmet?
"No… that's not quite it. I need the whole containment suit: helmet, top, and pants. Otherwise, they might see through it."

"Not being paranoid. Well, being paranoid, but sometimes it pays to be paranoid and it always pays to be paranoid when you're dealing with Midgard."
(Outside the slags:)
I can't tell easily over your comm. Come down to the Slags and we'll have a look.
(End of conversation)
(Inside the slags:)
(If you have a full containment suit in inventory:)
You hand her the containment suit you've been carrying around.(Or, if the only valid containment helmet is one you're wearing:)
You hand her the containment shirt and pants you've been carrying, along with the helmet off your head.(Or, if the only valid containment top is one you're wearing:)
You hand her the containment helmet and pants you've been carrying, along with the shirt literally off your back.Or, if the only valid containment pants are ones you're wearing:)
You hand her the containment helmet and shirt you've been carrying, along with the pants you were just wearing. She seems distinctly nonplussed.Or, if the only valid containment top and pants are ones you're wearing:)

You hand her the containment suit you've been wearing. She seems distinctly nonplussed by you handing over your clothes.(And then:)
Yes, that's it! That's exactly it.
Here, let me just put that on. Okay, ready to go.
Just head out of the Slags and I'll follow you.
(You lose 1 each of containment helmet, top, pants. If you have a 1 heavy part and one normal part, Hel will take the normal part, leaving you the better one. What happens if you have more than one of a type of heavy part?)
(End of conversation)
Let's talk
I suppose we have a moment, yes. What would you like to talk about?
Your comrades
The Slags
Midgard
Special Projects (only after starting her part of the Survivors quest)
Nothing (End of conversation)
Your comrades/Are there other survivors?/You mentioned others/What about your coworkers?/What of the others
Their secrets are their own, but I suppose it can't hurt to talk a bit. Who would you like to know about?
How about Lo?
Dr. Amundsen
David
Nevermind (End of conversation)
How about Lo?
(If he is alive:)
Ahhhhh, Lo. Loki, technically, when we were still working for Midgard. Haven't the faintest what his real name is. He might have even changed it.
But, anyway, he was the lead scientist at Midgard Test Facility 1. Not a very exciting name, but I think it's where the Incident started.
Tell me about Midgard
The Incident?
You mentioned others
Thanks (End of conversation)
(If he is dead:)
Ah, Lo. Poor, poor Lo. He was a scientist, not a fighter. He hid so well… but not well enough apparently.
He used to be the lead scientist at our facility, Midgard Test Facility 1. Nothing but a crater now, at the center of the Slags.
Tell me about Midgard
The Slags?
You mentioned others
Thanks (End of conversation)
Dr. Amundsen
(If he is alive:)
Ahhh, Sif. Or Dr. Amundsen I suppose you call her. I'd consider her a friend, although we didn't talk much while I was in the Slags.
She was a computer specialist, back in the day. Not really my speciality, but I understand she's quite good.
What of the others?
Thank you (End of conversation)
(If she is dead:)
Oh, Sif, poor creature. She was a friend once, but not cut out for war. Head in computers all day.
That's why we had brutes like me to protect the place… Sif… Dr. Amundsen, will be sorely missed.
What of the others?
Thank you (End of conversation)
David
(If he is alive:)
Ahhhh, David, yes. Or Baldur. Somebody had a sense of humor with that one. The invulnerable pretty boy or the math whiz who cries at the first splinter? Heh.
I shouldn't tease though, not anymore. He's the furthest along, figuring out how to make the… energies of the Incident work for us. I'd call him a sorcerer, but he'd laugh.
He'll explain better than I can. All I could do is use the witchfire he gave me and barely that.
You mentioned others
Thanks (End of conversation)
(If he is dead:)
David, David, David. Such a poor boy… not so invulnerable after all. He…
He was always the brightest among us, even Lo. Of anyone, he got the furthest along taming the energies of the Slags. We'll just have to make it without him somehow.
The Incident?
You mentioned others
Thanks (End of conversation)
The Slags/What about the Slags?
The Slags… they've been my home for years, but I still don't really understand them. There's something in the air or perhaps a radiation…
It does more than make people insane. It lets them move through another world. An endless, dangerous, primal world. That's the only way I can explain it. It shares some traits with ours, but it certainly couldn't be mistaken for the same.
How'd they get this way?
Are there other survivors?
Thank you (End of conversation)
Midgard/Tell me about Midgard
Midgard? Well… Midgard is an interesting case.
They were just a normal company ten years ago… or I thought they were at any rate. They're something else entirely now, since the Incident.
Perhaps they found something they want to protect or perhaps they just value their secrecy too much to admit the truth. I can't say for sure, but I intend to find out.
What about the Incident?
What about your coworkers?
Thanks (End of conversation)
The Incident?/What about the Incident?/How'd they get this way?
Ah, the Incident, yes. Midgard's great mistake, I suppose you could say. What made the Slags such… prime vacation property.
Well, could say. Lo always disagreed. There isn't any real evidence left either way.
But the crater… the portal… is where we used to work and that's enough for me. What they're up to now… is anyone's guess.
What about the Slags?
Tell me about Midgard
Are there other survivors?
Thanks (End of conversation)
What suit again?
Well, here's my idea at least: they use containment suits in the lab up the way, near the gates. If we get a suit like that, I could probably wear it and escape notice until well after we've escaped the Slags.
Otherwise, the drones will gun me down. Haven't been able to leave the building in months.
You mean this suit?
Alright (End of conversation)
Special Projects
Special Projects? Well, it was a bit what it sounds like… a place to put the things you don't want anyone else to know about.
I don't mean that in the creepy sort of way. It was mostly R&D, really cutting edge stuff, but that wasn't my area of expertise.
They were always fiddling with chips and chemicals and so forth. MSP… that's what we called it, for Midgard Special Projects, MSP is where the first Midgard drones were developed. The guy who did that was our boss.
So, say what you will about the rest of the company, you get into the guts of MSP, it's all merit. Can be a bit cutthroat, and I mean that entirely literally, but it's all merit.
What about the rest of Midgard?
What about your coworkers?
Thanks (End of conversation)
Intro (damaged buildings, with a suit)
Alright, I've got the suit. I'll follow you when you head out of the Slags, then we can figure out what to do next.
Let's talk (no time)
Okay (End of conversation)
Let's talk (no time)
No time for that now. Let's get out of here, then we can chat all you want.
(End of conversation)
Intro (in the diner, first time)
It's amazing how nice sitting in a diner can be compared to living in the Slags for years. You should try the Jumbo Platter. They're delicious!
Let's Talk
What's next?
Thanks for the advice (End of conversation)
What's Next
You're right, after all. Too much time in the Slags, I'm letting my guard down.
We need to find out who's behind all this. I think it's safe to say it's all connected somehow, the Slags… Eclipse…
Midgard has to be involved, but they might not even be the culprit. Even if they are, we have to figure out who in Midgard. Nobody could take on the whole thing.
We'll have to come at this from a few different directions, find where they intersect. We have our suspicions, but we need proof… well, we need information, enough light to see by.
Feeling decent about ourselves in the morning is just a bonus.
What's your approach?
Take a look at this PDA
Let me think about that (End of conversation)
What's your approach?/What's the plan?/Run that by me again
Well, I learned while I was in the Slags that there's a Midgard facility somewhere near here. From what I've heard from the locals, Midgard Security Forces has been snatching people who overdose on Eclipse.
Now… maybe they're just trying to help, but I'd really guess something bigger's afoot.
So, I need someone who won't show up as a dead employee wanted for questioning on their medical scans. If you can convince them to snatch you, we might be able to figure out what they're up to.
I'll try (if you haven't agreed yet)
Like these records? (only if you have used enough Southside lab notes)
Yeah, no (End of conversation)
I'll try/Alright
Very good.
I'm too obvious, but I think you could slip through as a resident and see where they're taking people. What we really want to know is what they're doing with them and why.
After all, it might just be unethical medical testing… but I think we both see that it's tied into Eclipse.
(End of conversation)
Take a look at this PDA
Hmmmm… I'm no good with these sorts of things. Sif, or Dr. Amundsen if you prefer, would have been a better bet.
It's possible she passed that knowledge on. Maybe one of her students could help.
Sorry, it's not much to go on, but Sif always handled this stuff, I handled the physical end.
(End of conversation)
Intro (Diner, again)
They say if you spend too much time in the Slags you get a little crazy. Well, as it happens, I've got a plan that's a little crazy.
What's the plan?
Take a look at this PDA
Like these files? (only if you have used enough Southside lab notes)
Alright
Not right now (End of conversation)
Intro (after her part of the survivors is started)
If Midgard is really kidnapping Eclipse addicts, you should be able to hijack that operation to find their facility. From there, it's just a matter of figuring out what they're doing.
If nothing else, you should be able to access their database and view the files. The old protocol was that you could only view them on screen or print them, but that's probably changed in the last decade.
Run that by me again
I found it
Here are the files (only if you have the Southside lab documentation)
Take a look at this recording (only if you found the incriminating Southside lab footage)
Take a look at these records (only if you found the incriminating Southside lab notes)
Take a look at this PDA
Will do (End of conversation)
I found it
Good, good. They probably have some sort of central system where they keep their data.
Keep your eyes open.
End of conversation
Here are the files
(If this is the first evidence you have found:)
Hmmmm. This… this is a good catch.
They're definitely rounding up the addicts, categorizing them… even treating them for minor injuries. I'm not even sure the person who wrote this report knows what they're looking for, though, they just have the tests they need to run.
That's a bad sign, I think. It means someone higher on the food chain must be commanding them… if it goes up high enough, it might be related to what they're doing in the Slags.
Perhaps this is me being a little crazy, but these security protocols… the code names, leaving even project heads in the dark, no communications between facilities… it sounds like Special Projects. I wouldn't have been surprised to… discipline someone for leaking this back when I worked with MSP.
Don't trust my judgment on this, though, really don't. Just keep your eyes open for more signs of Special Projects.
I'm afraid I might be misguided by my hope… Special Projects we might be able to kill off bit by bit. If it goes up to the Executive Branch, there's no way.
(If you already have found evidence Special Projects is involved:)
Hmmmm. This… this is a good catch.
If we didn't already suspect Special Projects, I'd think I was crazy. Well, crazy specifically involving this, I know I've got a few tics from my time in the Slags.
Enough about me, though, this reeks of Special Projects. Which means they must still be operational and, apparently, are involved in this Eclipse situation.
The next step is going to be dangerous. We'll need to go underground… give me a while to think.
Take a look at this recording
Hmmmm. This… this is a good catch.
So we can be certain Special Projects is involved, sorting the test subjects… looking for something. I don't know what that means, but it can't say it bodes well.
From this recording it almost sounds like a group within Special Projects… well, it's obvious they suspect us already or they wouldn't have come for Sif… Amundsen and David.
We're going to have to split up. Give me some time to prepare.
End of conversation
Take a look at these records
(If this is the first evidence you have found:)
Hmmmm. This… this is a good catch.
Someone in Midgard's definitely pulling the strings. It can't just be a local operation, because they're in the dark too.
A couple things… little things like this "Thrivaldi" and the way the knowledge is segmented… makes me think it might be Special Projects.
Don't trust my judgment on this, though, really don't. Just keep your eyes open for more signs of Special Projects.
I'm afraid I might be misguided by my hope… Special Projects we might be able to kill off bit by bit. If it goes up to the Executive Branch, there's no way.
Intro (after showing her the Southside lab documentation or incriminating Southside lab footage or sufficient Southside Lab Notes)
I can only hope it's Special Projects behind this. Or, I suppose in some happy fantasy land, Midgard might have everyone's best interests at heart, trying to control the Eclipse menace without spreading it by the news.
Ha ha ha! Ha ha HA HA HA! Ahhhh, sorry, I kill myself sometimes.
So we're sure it's Special Projects... now what?
Take a look at this PDA (Only if Dr. Amundsen is dead and you have not yet completed Dr. Amundsen's Legacy)
Here's the PDA's data (Only if Dr. Amundsen is dead and you have completed Dr. Amundsen's Legacy)
Let's talk
I'll keep looking (ends conversation?)
So we're sure it's Special Projects… now what?
Now, we move forward carefully.
Someone obviously knows we're still alive. That's obvious from the attacks on Baldur and Sif… David and Amundsen. Until we know how, it's too dangerous to stay together. We'll have to go into hiding separately.
You should decide who's going to remain as your contact. We shouldn't expose you to everyone or everyone to you, bad security.
You, obviously
Let me think (Ends conversation)
Intro (after showing her the recording)
It's very clear to me that we have to split up and go back into hiding… deep cover as I was. We'll only be keeping minimal contact with each other, so you should choose one of us to work with going forward.
But I don't have to tell you violence is always an answer, do I?
You're the best option
Let me think more (Ends conversation)
You're the best option
Hmmm. Well, I think you made the right decision. I may not be as useful in the field as I was before the Slags, but the right tactics and the right weapons… we can destroy just about anything.
Ends conversation
Or, if you haven't completed Hel's quest at this point:
We… haven't really worked together on anything major. I'd suggest choosing someone you've worked more closely with.
Not to disrespect myself, but someone you can trust.
Ends conversation
Intro (if you said "we're sure it's Special Projects… now what" by completing two other survivors quests but not hers, and backed away??)
Like I said, we need to split up. I'm the best at staying hidden, I'll go under, see what I can find.
You pick someone with an approach you can work with.
Ends conversation
Intro (after choosing her as your contact)
Now, we wait for the right moment to strike. Special Projects is just a construct, after all, just a collection of people. Remove the people and poof no Special Projects.
Here's the PDA's data
if this is the first Survivor quest evidence you've obtained:
Well, with a lost PDA, the best first bet is call logs. Nobody ever thinks to hide them like notes or financial documents.
Looks like he gets a lot of calls from a number labeled Dr. Thomas… and there's a notes file about Thomas. Sounds like he's curious why she gives him weapons and Eclipse for free… that's fair.
She mentioned "Yggdrasil" once, competing against other people on it. That sounds far too much like a Midgard codename to be coincidence, although we ran into more than a few people false flagging that over the years.
If it is in Midgard, it'd be under Special Projects, our old division. Other places get boring corporate names for their projects.
I want to leap to a conclusion there, but we need to verify it first. Keep your eyes out for Special Projects.
You've gained a new contact: Dr. Thomas (if you don't have it)
if it's the second:

If we weren't already suspecting Special Projects, I'd think this was too big a coincidence. I mean… after all these years, why are we seeing this? Or perhaps many people are seeing it and we're the only ones with the experience to understand.
Either way, Yggdrasil sounds an awful lot like a project under Special Projects. We'll have to pursue that… probably go underground.
You've gained a new contact: Dr. Thomas (if you don't have it)
Contact
She'll ask for a containment suit during the Slags Quest.
If all three other survivors die, she hangs out in the abandoned ruins outside of the slags.

Intro
Well, looks like we’re stuck with each other. Let’s make the most of it.
What's next?
Right back atcha
Right back atcha
That's the spirit. Don't take any shit, least of all from a washed up old relic like me.
Ends conversation
What's next?
I don’t think it’s a coincidence. Wotan’s experiments back in the day, the Slags driving people insane, Eclipse… I think it’s all hooked together somehow.
I don’t know what the point is yet, but Midgard’s up to something big. This isn’t a new street drug for street drug’s sake, nobody’s doing this to make a few creds.
Midgard thinks they have something that’ll let ‘em take on the big boys: OmniTech and Zaibatsu.
I got that part. What's next?
Like what?
Wotan?
I'll go figure it out Ends conversation
I got that part. What's next?
Well, we need to find a weak link. HQ is too hard to crack. We need to find some clues out in the field.
The records facility in Oldtown should still have some paper documents about the Incident, when the Industrial District became the Slags. Early responders, chemical assays, toxin levels over time, stuff like that.
We need to find if it’s some sort of accident or if they added the toxins later.
Old stuff like that should be down in the vault. Conversation end
Like what?
I don’t know.
I saw a lot of crazy things in the Slags. Maybe they’re trying to weaponize it, that’s the first thing I’d do. Killing people with your imagination is a pretty great trick.
But where’s the power come from? Maybe it could be an energy source? I’ve even see people pull stuff out of there. Who doesn’t want free things?
Knowing corporate it’s probably something stupid like unseating Zaibatsu’s entertainment monopoly. We can outmaneuver them easy unless they have another genius like Wotan in the wings.
How do we stop them?
Wotan?
Food for thought I guess Ends conversation
Wotan?
Yeah, our old boss when we worked for Midgard Special Projects. Classic egghead. Great with numbers, full of crazy ideas, absolute crap with people.
I ran security for him. One of the biggest concerns was always that one of the workers would get fed up with his crap and pop him.
But all those Midgard drones you see around nowadays are his babies, so he had the brain to earn the fat checks he was pulling down. And people lined up to work for him, but the world’s biggest brain gets splattered in an explosion just like the rest.
Okay, what's next
Damned shame
Damned shame
I'm not so sure about that. Who knows what he might have made if that explosion hadn't taken him out?

Intro (after getting Oldtown quest)
Great. See what you can pull out of the vault under that Oldtown facility. Anything about the Slags and the toxins in it. I think that’s our best place to start.
If you can get the locals to help, great. If not, well, sometimes you have to break a few eggs.
Check these out (with Slags chemical study)
What's security like?
Let me see Ends conversation
Check these out
Those sound promising. Drop them off at Mikhail's so I can have a look.
Ends conversation
Or, at Mikhail's:
These… look perfect! It'll take me some time to sort out what has been going on… meteorology was never my forte, but I think the air sample should give us a good idea of how the toxins are changing over time.
What's security like?
It should still be handled by Internal Security. They're better trained than the ones they hire out to the city and other corps, but also usually a little slower off the draw.
If you can avoid drawing their attention, that's the best. But they'll have cameras, ID checks, retinal scans if Oldtown lives up to its name, and eyes on the ground. It's likely you'll have to fight your way through at some point.
When things get bad, they'll check out the guns or call in the heavies. The facility will probably evacuate if they expect any gunplay, but that just means its easier to pick targets.
Ends conversation
Intro (after completing the Oldtown Quest)
I've been over the information forward and backward… the Incident released some trace amounts of Eclipse-like toxins, along with plenty of old-fashioned burning factories. So Wotan's old experiments are definitely linked into all of this.
But after that first release, there are trace amounts of it appearing for years. More recently, it's started to tick up faster and faster. So something's changed.
I'm willing to bet somebody changed it and, if they can change it, we can make them change it back… or at least explain what happened.
We just need to find that person.
Let's find them
Alright. Our best bet is in Midgard Headquarters itself… God, probably the Special Projects records. But before you try poking around there, you'll want to get the lay of the land… get some allies.
I can't help you much in there, but you can probably find someone else who wants Midgard to get taken down a couple notches.
(Unlocks Downtown, end of conversation)
Let's think about it
Alright. Let me know when you've decided it's worth your time… haaa, sorry. You've been a great help, I'm just pissed off I can't get near the place.
(End of conversation)
Intro (after unlocking Downtown)
We want to get into the Special Projects records in Midgard Headquarters but you'll probably need some help. Midgard can be stupid, in their way, but they won't spare any expense on security there. Find some people that know the lay of the land.
(End of conversation)
