Encounter Conditions

Low Records Office panic

Initial Text

You stop at the door of the lobby. It's fairly busy, with men and women in business suits crossing through in small groups.

A few guards stand unobtrusively at the corners of the rooms, glancing at badges as they're presented.

Summary of Choices

1. Walk on through - enter Records Office if in Office Worker outfit, otherwise nothing
2. Run through - fight 2 Internal Security (baton) at < 5 office panic, or fight 4 Internal Security (baton)
3. Flash your ID (With Midgard records ID in inventory) - Enter Records Office; or with 5+ office panic or counterculture cyberware, fight 2 Internal Security (baton)
4. Ask about Halloween - (During Halloween 2015)
5. Turn and leave - Walk Away

Choice Text and Results

Walk on through

One of the guards stops you as you make your way across the lobby. "I'm sorry, this facility isn't open to the public."

He shows you to the door, doing his best to avoid a scene.

Or, in a Containment Suit:

One of the guards drags you to the side.

"Take that shit off. You're going to scare the kids." He jerks a thumb towards the employees.

"If you need that in the vault, put it on down there."

Or, in an Office Worker outfit? (Seems to be something more complicated going on here, or not all office worker outfit parts are equal.):

You make your way through the lobby as though you do this every day. The guards glance at you and wave you through.

Or, with counterculture cyberware installed (Takes priority over Office Worker outfit but not Containment Suit):

As you walk through the lobby, one of the guards mumbles something about "dress code" and turns you away.

Run through

You rush through the lobby, but the guards start moving as soon as you do and know the terrain.

One of them even stays back to radio in a report. Say what you will about Midgard as a whole, these people seem to know what they're doing.

Fight 2 Internal Security (Baton). Gain 2 office panic if you then run away. Needs checking for panic value if you win. Enter Records Office on success.

Or, at 5 office panic:

The guards don't seem intent on letting you through, but you may be able to punch a hole.

Fight 4 Internal Security (Baton). Enter Records Office on success.

Or, after attempting to run through more than twice?:

You rush through the lobby, but the guards start moving as soon as you do and know the terrain.

One of them even stays back to radio for backup, which comes in to flank you. Say what you will about Midgard as a whole, these people seem to know what they're doing.

Fight 4 Internal Security (Baton). Enter Records Office on success.

Flash your ID

You flash your ID as you pass the desk. It seems to do the trick.

Or, at 5 office panic or with counterculture cyberware installed:

You flash your badge as you walk by, but two guards move to check more closely and a third calls for back-up.

If they're this worried, there's no way they'll be amused by your stolen ID.

(Gain 1 office panic if you run away — needs checking if you win/lose)

And if you lose: You wake up in an alley. The guards obviously didn't go over your possessions too thoroughly, but the ID you were using is missing. (lose 1 Midgard records ID)

Ask about Halloween

+ Pre-Halloween 2015 messages

From October 21th - 26th, 2015:

You ask one of the guards about Halloween. He nods grimly. "Yeah, we have some abandoned office space upstairs."

"But we haven't opened it yet, so don't ask too much." He shows you back outside.

From October 26th on, with a Midgard records ID:

You show the guard your records ID. His smile becomes more forced. "Well, I guess it's better than working."

He leads you to the floor where the festivities will be held.

Enter Party Floor

From October 26th on, with a records Halloween ID:

The guard looks at your ID, his smile becoming more forced. "Fine, come on up."

He leads you to the floor where the festivities will be held.

On October 31st:

You ask one of the guards about Halloween. He nods grimly. "Sure, it seems like we're letting everybody in now. Have fun."

Despite his non-chalant tone, he carefully leads you up the stairs to the floor where the party is apparently taking place.

From November 1st - October 20th, 2016 :

His smile flickers and he gives a response with trained precision, "anti-corporate terrorists mixed in with the students. The floor isn't dangerous, but they've sealed it off to prevent contaminating the crime scene."

You pry a bit more, but he doesn't give up much more information. He mentions something about how they "weren't able to get all the contaminated punch," but won't unpack it or even acknowledge his slip.

All the more he'll say is that the students' coordinator dropped some stuff off at Lattes! down the way. With that, he hustles you back onto the street.

During Halloween 2016 through 2024 lead up (October 21-31st)

You ask one of the guards about Halloween. He nods grimly. "It's not here this year, thank God. That means they can all turn right around and go back to pick up some Lattes! or whatever kids do now."

Turn and leave

You carefully back out of the lobby.
