Normally when used, you get the following result and the item is not consumed:

Well, it nominally boots but the automatic updates won't run on it. You'll have to tweak some sort of patch to manually apply it.

With Inhuman Patching active:

You don't really understand the patch on your system, but transferring it over seems to work.

You found: inhuman PDA

Lose all energy of Inhuman Patching.

With any(?) other patching effect active other than the inhuman one:

You tweak the patch on your system enough that you can transfer it over.

You found: updated PDA

Lose all energy of the active patch.
