Notes
If you do fire damage to the Phoenix (using a Fire technique that was not fully evaded), it adds [square root of damage done, rounded down] to the Phoenix's Fire Power. The Phoenix has Impenetrable Armor vs Fire attacks and takes no damage from them.
Each fire attack is added separately, so if you did consecutive fire attacks doing 16 and 8 and 1 damage respectively, the Phoenix would gain 4 + 2 + 1 = 7 Fire Power. The Fire Power bonus is applied as soon as the damage is received, so if the Phoenix uses fire attacks later in the round, she gets bonus Fire power.
Successful fire attacks give the following message:
<You attack>, but the fire just seems to make her stronger.
On the pass that the Phoenix gets at least 10 bonus Fire Power, you get one of the following messages, and a new effect for the rest of the battle:
Normally:
<You attack>, but the fire just seems to make her stronger. The pheonix is now glowing like the sun, threatening to sear out your eyes.(Gain 1 turn of Fighting the Sun (blinded))
If you have sunglasses:
<You attack>, but the fire just seems to make her stronger. The pheonix is putting off waves of heat like the noonday sun. It's a good thing you don't have to look at it.(Gain 1 turn of Fighting the Sun (protected))
Further Fire attacks give the normal "just seems to make her stronger" message (presumably increasing Fire Power).
On Winning
If you have Fighting the Sun active, and win the fight, you can get a blazing feather. You can get the feather even if it starts blazing on the round that you kill it.
You gulp down a mouthful of the phoenix. It feels like it'll burn out your innards, but you feel a surge of x Energy. |
