This item is consumed on use.
The initial use text is followed by different messages, depending on how many defenders you have seeded with information by using the protein hijacker's Protein Code tool.
If you have use the receiver at least once but not yet found any useful data:
There doesn't seem to be any more data out there than last time you looked.
After having found some data but not yet unlocked more:
Unfortunately, nothing pops up that you don't already know.
After seeding data successfully a few times, if you don't already know the recipe:
It looks like several of the proteins will break down into volatile compounds if exposed to acid. Might be useful.
You've learned a new chemistry recipe: Nitro - Dissolve a lake serpent sample in powerful acid to get some Nitro. Just don't drop it.
After seeding data successfully some number of times:
You can see some of the reasons your samples break down when exposed to air so quickly. You should be able to preserve them a bit better now.
(Increases lake serpent sample drop rate?)
After some additional data seeding:
It doesn't make a lot of sense, but looking at the analysis there isn't any question: despite not being poisonous, the serpents have active venom glands. If you can extract them somehow, they're probably good for something.
(Unlocks serpent venom gland drops from Terrible Serpents if you have a Myers sampling kit equipped)
After additional data seeding:
There are a few proteins in the serpent's stomachs that should preserve anything they've eaten. If these results are right, they barely break the food down at all. Huh.
(Increases partially digested fish drops from Terrible Serpents?)
After you've found all the other data and done enough additional seeding(?):
There we go, the whole thing is nice and orderly now. For a creature as strange as that one, it's interesting how little is actually going on in its body.
You've mined this vein pretty deep. If there's anything else to learn about these critters it's through hands-on experience and not protein analysis.
(Gain +2 XP from fighting serpents?)
Or, if you have done enough seeding and have Burning Vision active?:
You load up the receiver on your comm and run it to see what might be hanging out there.
There we go, the whole thing is nice and orderly now. For a creature as strange as that one, it's interesting how little is actually going on in its body.
Huh. You're not sure why you didn't notice it before… past the simple protein signatures, there's a pattern burning its way through.
It's hard to say what it means, but damned if it's not interesting.
You've mined this vein pretty deep. If there's anything else to learn about these critters it's through hands-on experience and not protein analysis.
(Unlock the ability to learn Serpent Pattern)
