Description | There's a story, said to have been old when Metroplex got its name, about a man hung out to die with nothing but his rags and the ravens to keep him company. The details vary with the telling, but it always ends with a warning never to enter an alley marked with a single piece of cloth. Something about this tattered old cape reminds you uncomfortably of that tale, as though you might violate sacred ground just by wearing it. |

Uses
After 9-30? energy spent with this item equipped, you get a special combat encounter. Win or lose, these encounters do not take Energy. If you win, you can learn the Ragged Dodge technique (but only for the first five fights you win each day). The Rag Man will only show up while outdoors.
If you are Etheric:
As you make your way down an alley, you hear an unfamiliar bird cry, more a premonition than a sound. It's enough to get you to turn around, though, as the shadowy figure behind you closes the last few meters.
Maybe the bird was looking out for you.
(Fight the Rag Man)
And, after defeating the Rag Man at least once today with Channeling Matsuo active:
A deep, threatening laugh echoes through the alley you're passing through. The writhing shape of rags and shadows hovers, waiting patiently for you to turn around and prepare yourself before it swoops towards you.
Or, if not Etheric:
As you make your way down an alley, you catch a faint rasp of polysteel-on-polysteel, more a premonition than a sound. You turn to find a man, wrapped in rags and barely more than a step behind you.
(Fight Ragged Bum)

Remaining Mysteries
From Podcast #35 (March 2014):
Q: Out of curiosity have we found everything pertaining to the Rag Man's cape? I find the Rag Man interesting so I wouldn't mind having a little more tucked away.
A: There aren't a couple interactions that haven't been found, because the things it interacts with hasn't been found.
From Podcast #40 (March 2015):
Q: Back in Podcast 35 you indicated that some interactions remained with the Rag Man's cape but we had not yet discovered the things it interacted with. While the interactions have not been found are one or more of the previous unknowns now known to us?
A: They are in this case still waiting to be discovered. It might be a while. Interacting with things that existed before it came out, and was interacting with things that had been undiscovered for a long time even then. So don't necessarily look at the cape, but if you find some new old item that looks like it might interact, try it out.
Since then, the Demonslaying Blade technique and Demon Slayer skill have been found — likely related? But Kinak refers specifically to a new old *item*.
