Notes
At the start of the combat, and at the end of every round of combat, the spider weaves a random script:
The spider weaves letters in a(n) <angular/blocky/flowing/mysterious> script as though they were strands in a web.
(Gain 1 turn of the above script, if you don't have it, lose any other script effect)
Also, if you try to attack, normally all damage is blocked:
<You attack>, but the spider pulls its strange letters into a web to block your attack.
If you use the rune that "crackles and falters" (randomized per player), that attack and all further attacks do square-root of damage done for that pass. The spider will begin weaving a different type of script next round.
<You attack>, but the spider's stony hide turns away all but <square-root, rounded down of> damage.
If you use the rune that "shatters over the spider", that attack does full damage and subsequent techniques used do reduced damage as above. The spider will begin weaving a different type of script next round.
Strategy
You start each round with a new script effect. You a) can't do any damage with it active and b) the spider will do a big Etheric attack on pass 2-3 if you have a script effect, so getting rid of the script is important right away.
Use whichever rune you need to "crackle and falter" or "shatter with overwhelming power" on the first pass, and chain other techniques with it afterwards. They'll still be somewhat blocked by the armor though.
