Start
Find a silenced corpse in the massive oil slick choice encounter on the tainted shoreline (requires etheric or slags poisoning). Note that the choices for the oil slick are randomized each reset. Cut the corpse's lips free, and then ask why he's there and then how you can help.
Outline
Getting on the Ghost Ship
- Another choice from the random massive oil slick adventure is the ghost ship. Note that the ghost ship appears where there used to only be a rocky island before.
- You must maintain etheric (or slags poisoning) all the time while on the ghost ship, otherwise you will be dumped back on land.
Getting the Ancient Sextant
- Adventure on the ghost ship and fight spectral sailors, which drop rotting journals. You will need five journals in total.
- Read the journals five times to reveal that the ship's navigator was locked up near the bow of the ship.
- Continue adventuring until you meet The Navigator choice encounter.
- Steal his stuff, agree to help or fight him; either way you receive the ancient sextant.
Finding the Bone Shaman
- Use silver weapons or the Silver Bullets technique to kill Spectral Sailors on the ship.
- Note that you can do this at the same time as farming for rotting journals above.
- Once you kill five sailors with silver, The Bone Shaman choice encounter starts appearing: you can choose to make a deal with him or fight him.
- If you make a deal, gain the Servant of the Mask skill and end the quest.
- If you fight him, gain a strange gourd and a lost map.
Finding the five lost souls
- There are five corpses spread about the city. You can either choose to kill them or release them - the rewards to this quest depend on whether you release all, some or none of the five corpses.
- The five corpses are near (all five require etheric to show up):
- Some crates on the Waterfront
- A cave in the Dockside Sewers,
- The fourth floor in the Damaged Buildings
- The Beach on the Tainted Shoreline
- Massive Oil Slick on the Tainted Shoreline
- You can either give them the gourd to drink or kill them.
- Some of the corpses have their lips sewn closed. You must cut them open first for the kill to to count. Be forewarned however - if you fight one with its lips unsewn and lose the battle, it can drink from the gourd anyway. So you only have one chance to kill.
- Once you free or kill them all, you hear a scream from the ghost ship.
Finishing off the Shaman for good
- Return to the ghost ship again. Adventure until you get The Helm choice encounter.
- Fight The Mask and his grasping and shrouded hands.
- If you released and/or killed all five corpse properly, the mask will shatter. If not, it will regenerate and you will have to fight them again.
- Equipe the ancient sextant and head to the Helm again. You can choose to sail to the treasure, reef or open sea to choose your skill reward. There are nine different possibilities in all:
Saved All | Saved Some | Killed All | |
---|---|---|---|
Treasure Chest | sea lord's crown (Monarch's Call) |
antique hand mirror (Mirror Gazing) |
dueling knife (Ruthlessness) |
Reefs | Mercy Killer | Dreamslayer | Undead Scourge |
Open Sea | Path of Peace | Forked Path | Path of War |
Quest Log
Starting quest
A corpse off the shores of Lake Metroplex has asked you to free him and his comrades from servitude.
When not etheric
A corpse off the shores of Lake Metroplex has asked you to free him and his comrades from servitude.
It all seems a bit too much like a day dream or hallucination to take seriously, though. Crazy stuff.
Before finding the ship
You'll have to get to the ship somehow. The corpse said it would be easy to get there from a high point over Lake Metroplex. Maybe there's an island somewhere.
After boarding the ship
You'll probably have to get back to the ship somehow. Last time, you swam to it from the island overlooking the oil slick on Lake Metroplex.
Either that or you hallucinated the whole thing. It's kind of hard to say.
After reading first two journals
A corpse off the shores of Lake Metroplex has asked you to free him and his comrades from servitude.
Those strange, childish books must be related somehow. You'd say the strangest bit is them throwing out their non-gold treasures. That must be significant somehow.
After reading all the journals but before finding the navigator?
A corpse off the shores of Lake Metroplex has asked you to free him and his comrades from servitude.
Those strange, childish books must be related somehow. Perhaps that navigator buried under the deck could help or there was a reason they were throwing away their non-gold treasures.
After killing the first specter with silver weapon
A corpse off the shores of Lake Metroplex has asked you to free him and his comrades from servitude.
It seems that silver is able to permanently destroy the specters on the ship. More importantly, they've been bothering you less. Maybe a few more shows of force and they'll let you near the helm.
After killing Bone Shaman
You killed the shaman on the deck of the ship, but you'd be shocked if that's the last you see of him. Everything seems to make a little sense except this gourd. It must be holding something, but it won't even crack open.
After killing or saving the first corpse
You've found a few corpses that were somehow bound to the gourd that shaman carried. However, when you shake the gourd you can still hear faint screams. There must be more out there.
After killing or saving several more, in addition to the paragraph directly above:
finding 2: So far you've found two: (some of:) <on the Slags beach, on the Waterfront, in the Sewers, in the Slags, and over Lake Metroplex>.
finding 3+: You've found several so far including (some of:) <on the Slags beach, on the Waterfront, in the Sewers, in the Slags, and over Lake Metroplex>.
After killing and/or saving all five corpses
You've destroyed that gourd which used to trap those corpses' life essence.
After killing the mask, without the ancient sextant in your inventory
You shattered the shaman's mask and banished his power. All that remains is figuring out how to read this map.
After killing the mask, with the ancient sextant in your inventory
You shattered the shaman's mask and banished his power. All that remains is steering the ship out of these mists. The map has a couple of interesting options.
Conclusion:
You sent the ghost ship back into the mists.
