Encounter Conditions

Initial Text

Wandering around the docks, you come upon a small sign with an illustration that looks like one of the old coins you're carrying around. Following the arrow, then several more signs just like it, you find a cramped temporary market hidden between strategically placed shipping containers.

It looks like half the dock security force is in here shopping. It's hard to say who's selling what, but you can definitely see some Third Eyes unloading a ship and a man with the Fang tattoo among the shopkeepers. An older man standing near the water watches over the proceedings, although you doubt anyone's really in control.

Nobody's paying any attention to you. Whom do you approach?

The Fang

blueganger.jpg

The Fang dealer looks up at you with wide eyes and a terribly fake smile plastered on his face. "Errrr, hi. Ummmm, I mean… hi, yeah. So, ha ha… yeah, we've got something new for you if you're interested. Some performance enhancing drugs and weapons training… not that you need them! Ha ha ha ha."

"So, drugs, for you? Two for some old coins… make that three."

Sounds like a deal (1 old coin)

He exhales loudly. "Okay, cool, glad, you know, this went well. Right, so here's your drugs."

He grabs three random items from his coat and hands them to you in exchange for your old coins. "Have a good day! Bye!"

As you walk away, you can hear him breathing a sigh of relief.

You found: 3 of smuggler's crates, anxiety medication, Ease, Nova, Wrecker or Atlas capsules

(You lose: 1 handful of old coins)

I'll take the training (1 old coin)

He looks shocked for a second. "You don't… need… from me… okay, cool, yeah, let's go through some moves."

He accepts your old coins and runs you through a few drills. Despite his terrified demeanor, he seems to be pretty experienced in gang warfare.

You learned a new Technique: 2-3? of: Beatdown, Dirty Trick, Power Strike, Focused Burst

(You lose: 1 handful of old coins)

Only on some condition?

Any tricks defending here?

He looks around cautiously, then shrugs. "Well, back before we got into the Eclipse business, I know there was a lab. Folks were getting stupid, wanting to mix up combat drugs and try to take on the the big families… not my idea of a good time. Eclipse saved us a whole lot of trouble."

"But, if you were interested, some of my old contacts might be able to get it running… get you a local supply here. It'll be pretty pricy, though, probably something like fifty sets of old coins."

Here you go (50 old coins)

He counts over the coins quickly. "Yeah, this'll get us back in business. I'll let them know. As long as you stay close and keep us supplied, we should be able to get you quite the stream of goodies."

Fortification Option: Experimental Drugs

(You lose: 50 old coins)

Too rich for my blood

Rough him up

You grab him and shake a bit, just enough to make him know you mean business. "Hey, special today! Just for you! Have some free stuff!"

He grabs a random item out of his stash and hands it to you.

You found: anxiety medication, Ease, Nova, smuggler's crate, Atlas capsules or Wrecker

Walk away

You turn around and leave. You hear him heave a gigantic sigh of relief as you go.

(does this trigger the Walk Away only 5 times for free thing?)

The Third Eye

ThirdEyeLieutenant.jpg

You make your way through the crowd in the direction he points you. You find your way to a pile of crates being unloaded from an aging, rusty ship.

A ranking member of the Third Eye, judging by the requisite nice shades, starts talking without turning towards you. "Hello there. You've got decent timing. We just started getting in shipments of neural recordings if you're into that. Have the chipdecks to play them too."

Without looking to see if you're paying attention, he continues. "Can't take credits for them, but the chipdecks are five and a handful of the unsorted recordings are two. We separated out a couple of the quality ones for ourselves, but I might be able to slip you one for ten."

(And if on Dr Thomas's quest)

He pauses for a second and gestures at an open crate filled with what appear to be Eclipse tablets. "Got some Eclipse too since demand here dried up. Selling 'em by the handful."

Prior to November 28th, 2011 the text for the Third Eye choice was:

Take a chipdesk

"Absolutely, one chipdeck, comin' right up." He hands you a small device, indistinguishable from a PDA except for the small slot at the base.

"It's secret. The college kids love 'em." You think he might be winking behind his shades.

You found: black market chipdeck

(You lose: 5 handfuls of old coins)

Take some recordings

"Chips? Got plenty of those. Few memory cores mixed in here too, but nothing too exciting." He looks over the stack for a moment. "Alright, let's try… this one and… this one… don't want that one… maybe… Okay, here you go."

He hands you a stack of neural recordings. They seem to be in pretty good shape.

"Now, I'm sure you've heard the speech before, but we make no guarantees of what will happen if you start slotting all these bad boys in a row. One a day… guaranteed. After that, no promises."

You found: 4-5? of: flower chip, Icy chip, Monday chip, numbing chip, unformatted memory core

(You lose: 2 handfuls of old coins)

Take a quality recording

"We've got plenty of chips, but you're clearly a… discerning buyer, so you'll want one of these cores." He looks over the stack for a moment. "They were separated out for some of my brothers, but, well, nothing says 'apology' like a stack of old coins."

He hands you a labeled memory core.

"Now, I'm sure you've heard the speech before, but the Third Eye can't make any guarantees of what will happen if you start slotting more a bunch of these bad boys in a row. One a day… guaranteed. After that, no promises."

You found: 1 of crane memory, island raid memory, family dinner memory, climber's memory, ?

(You lose: 10 handfuls of old coins)

(If on Dr Thomas's quest)

Handful of Eclipse

"Eclipse? Really? Thought the market was getting saturated, but here you go." He reaches into a crate behind him and hands you a fistful of Eclipse in exchange for your old coins.

You found: 20-22 tablets of Eclipse

(You lose: 1 handful of old coins)

Walk away

You turn and walk away. He continues ordering his minions to unload the ship without even noticing you've left.

The Old Man

Old-Fisherman.jpg

The old man looks over at you as you approach. "Hello there. Got a couple crates if you're interested, only slightly dumped into the drink." He pats the pile of damp crates.

"Handful of old coins'll get you any one of these babies. Smuggler's surplus, it's the best kind." He grins at you around his pipe.

Sure

"Thanks for takin' her off my hands." He points at a crate out of the stack. "Take that one, I got a good feelin' about her."

You grab the crate and hand the man his coins.

You found: smuggler's crate

(You lose: 1 handful of old coins)

No thanks
