Initial Text

At the crest of a snow-covered hill, you find a snow-covered tree. It stands there, stately, calm, and utterly above mortal concerns.

Maybe it's a symbol or a mystery… or maybe it's firewood with delusions of grandeur.

Choice Text and Results

Climb it

You try to send your reflection scrambling up the tree, but between the height and the icy bark, there's just no way it can get to the lowest branches. Drat.

You've earned 4 XP in Reflexes

Climb your ramp

Perfect! Your ramp gets your reflection easily in reach of the lowest branches.

You make climbing motions, carefully lining up your reflection with each handhold and branch. Eventually, it makes its way to the top of the tree, affording you a view of the surroundings.

(before burning down the hut)
The tree itself is at the crest of a large hill. At the base of the hill on one side is a pool surrounded by trees. On the other side, perhaps halfway up the hill, is a small cottage.

Huh, that's the only sign of civilization you've seen here thus far.

(after burning down the hut)
The tree itself is at the crest of a large hill. At the base of the hill on one side is an iced-over pool surrounded by trees. On the other side, perhaps halfway up the hill, are the ashen remains of a small cottage.

You've earned 3 XP in Perception

Shake it

Your reflection enthusiastically shakes the tree, covering the ground and itself in snow. That… may not have been as good an idea as it first sounded.

You've gained 10 energy of Numbing Chill.

You've earned 3 XP in Strength

Unlocks the "Pile the snow" action and removes the "Climb your ramp" action if you have that available.

(or, with energy of Numbing Chill, Blinding Chill, or Unforgiving Chill active)

Your reflection enthusiastically shakes the tree, covering the ground and itself in snow. On the bright side, you can't feel it anyway!

You've gained 10 energy of (active chill effect).

Dig a burrow

You use your reflection to dig a hole in the snow, then curl up on your floor, joining the reflection in slumber. You wake up, well-rested, then realize there's a bed right there. Ah well.

You regain 35-37 hit points!
Removes all energy of Numbing Chill.

Emulate a tree

You close your eyes and imagine yourself as the tree, clearing all your thoughts and concerns. You open your eyes an indeterminate time later, unsure if there's any greater meaning to the world, but feeling rather calmer.

You've earned 4 XP in Will

(or, with energy of Fae Sight active)

You close your eyes and imagine yourself as the tree, clearing all your thoughts and concerns. Your thoughts never quite clear, though, filling instead with visions of dancing on the treetops, lighter even than the air around you.

Mmmmm. That was nice, you feel quite refreshed.

You regain 40 hit points!

You've earned 6 XP in Will

Pile the snow

You carefully direct your reflection, gathering snow and piling it into a ramp up the side of the tree. It seems pretty solid, actually.

You've earned 4 XP in Strength

Replaces "Climb it" with "Climb your ramp."

Burn it down

You push your reflected torch against the glass, where it meets your reflection's hand and passes through somehow, back into the world of reflections. Unfortunately, the tree doesn't much seem to appreciate it, dropping a monumental load of snow on your reflection and sending the extinguished torch tumbling down the hill in a mini-avalanche. Stupid tree.

(and, if you have Unforgiving Chill active)
You've gained 25 energy of Unforgiving Chill

I believe the same applies to Blinding Chill and Numbing Chill.

Leave it

You turn your back on the mirror for a moment, ignoring the reflections.

See Walk Away
